East Midlands CPSA Newsletter – June 2012
Dear East Mids Shooter
It’s hard to believe that June is almost upon us, and the competitions have been coming thick and fast lately, and as always it’s great to see and talk to some of you at not only Regional shoots but at National competitions. At least the weather has warmed up and it really is a pleasure not to be wrapped up with more layers than an onion when shooting, for those of you that I saw at Southdown for the English Open Sporting it was possibly a bit too hot, but only three weeks earlier the same ground was like a mud bath…..so we shouldn’t complain.
Congratulations to the Trophy and medal winners in the month of May, and as always it’s good to see some new names coming through the ranks, with that in mind many congratulations to junior Edward Redmile for taking his first Regional title in the All Round at Nottingham.
Concentrating on the June fixtures there really is something for everyone, with trap, skeet and sporting shooters all well catered for.
We kick things off with the DTL Championships at Nottingham on June 10th; this is always well supported and keenly contested, and Marvin Houghton from Lincolnshire will be trying to hang on to his senior title, but there is hope for everyone, as nobody in the last few years has successfully defended it. The DTL is also round 4 of the Regional Supreme Championship and the race for points will be on, the competition finishes at Northampton the following week June 17th with the Skeet, again this one is always well fought over with the Region boasting some of the top skeet shooters in the country.
On the 24th of June we have a double header with the Handicap by Distance at Nottingham and the Sportrap at Cambridge Gun Club. I don’t profess to know too much about Handicap by Distance, but I can tell you it is a derivative of DTL, with the top ranked shooters having to shoot from a greater distance than those in the lower classes. The Sportrap at Cambridge will be fully booked as always so please do not leave it late to book on or you will be disappointed. For those of you that have not been to Cambridge for a while, please be aware they now have a new entrance to the ground as a continuation to their improvement and expansion programme. The A10 entrance is now closed and the new access is off the B1049 near Cottenham, but I would suggest when you book on to ask Karen for more details.
