Regional DTL Championsip 2012

BARRY DUNMORE THAN THE REST

It was a day for shooting high scores at this year’s Regional DTL that was once again held at Nottingham & District, and in total contrast to last weekend it was dry, overcast early and brightening later but more importantly, no wind !!!!

51 competitors booked in, near perfect conditions, no excuses, it was all going to come down to one or two points to settle things.

Five tons rattled in during the day, and it was down to first barrel kills to take the title, Veteran Barry Dunmore from Lincolnshire scoring one of those tons rose to the top of the tree with just one point going adrift on his first round to finish on 100/299 to give him both the Senior and Veteran’s titles.

Russ Hufton from Nottinghamshire once again had to settle for the runners up silver medal, with just a stray point lost on his first and last round to finish on 100/298. Notts junior Curtis Woolley was also in the shake up for senior honours taking the bronze medal on 100/296, but some form of consolation for Curtis was the junior title, finishing five points clear of Notts team mate Joe Booth 98/291 for the silver medal, who in turn finished six clear of another Notts junior George Lewis 96/285 for the bronze.

In Ladies with a superb field of  eight entrants of which six were from the region it was Leanne Palmer now shooting out of Northamptonshire who claimed the title for the second time in three years with a score of 97/285. Sarah Tyers from Leicestershire and Hazel Whiten from Cambridgeshire finished all square on 94/277 and 95/277 respectively, but as Hazel had left the ground no shoot off could take place, so Sarah took the silver runners up medal and Hazel the bronze.

It was just left down to a shoot off for second and third in Veterans to tidy up the day’s proceedings, with Nigel Lovatt from Lincolnshire, Ken Rimington from Notts, Keith Mault & Keith Taylor from Leicestershire and Hughie Peters from Suffolk left locked on 290/300 to fight for the silver and bronze medals. Sadly Keith Taylor had left the ground to reduce the field to four shooters but it was Nigel who stepped up to the plate with another straight and a single second barrel to take the silver. Ken suffering one lost target but it was still enough as his 24 first barrel kills gave him the bronze.

As always many thanks to Carl & Team Nottingham for hosting the shoot, to Julia for providing loads of information so as to produce this report and to Janet our Lady Chair for the photos.
