Regional Sportrap Championship 2012
Hey Jude!!!!!
Andy Walker - Andy Jude - Eric Chapman
Once again Mother Nature frowned upon us and dealt mid-morning shooters in the East Mids Sportrap at Cambridge Gun Club a savage blow.
Early heavy sky’s turned to torrential rain and high winds, making shooting not only unpleasant but at one stage almost impossible to ref because of the driving rain causing poor visibility, so much so shooting was called to a halt for a short period.
The early finishers from the 58 strong entry suggested that the better afternoon weather would throw up the winner; the feeling was the course would be a few targets easier by then. As it was it not only threw up the winner but the second and third as well, and it was Andy Jude from Suffolk who rarely shoots for regional titles who finished at the top of the tree with a superbly impressive 95. His score contained two straights on layouts 1 & 2, a surprising couple of targets lost on the gentle layout three, and a very worthy 22 on the very tough layout 4.
The Shoot Off
A couple of Suffolk shooters were forced to shoot off for silver and bronze overall after being locked together after the main competition on 89. Eric Chapman and Andy Walker went head to head on layout two and it was Eric who came up trumps triumphing 22-19.
Georgia Moule - Pauline Chapman - Sue Field
It was a good day in the Chapman household with Pauline winning Ladies with a superb score of 83, proving yet again that she is fast becoming a rising star in Sporting shooting and it’s only a matter of time before she causes a real impact in national events. Georgia Moule from Cambridgeshire showed how much she has advanced in the last twelve months and recorded a very tidy 72 to take the silver medal. Sue Field also from Cambridgeshire completed the final placing’s by taking bronze, her first ever regional medal, so congratulations to Sue.
In Juniors Taylor Hedgecock also from Cambridgeshire and still a Colt won the Gold medal with a score of 82, Georgia Moule winning her second medal of the day in the Silver medal berth.
John Stanton from Bedfordshire was the Veterans Champion scoring 85, and Fred Kidd made it Beds 1-2 by being just one clay behind, Brian Dunbavin a former Senior Champion completed the final days placing by winning the bronze medal a further clay behind Fred.
Karen & Mick Hodson - Cambridge Gun Club
Our final thanks of the day go to Karen and Mick Hodson who ran a superb shoot as always, and I have to say it was one of the best Sportrap courses I have ever shot…..a very enjoyable day for all levels and classes. The presentation of medals and trophies was preceded by a presentation to Karen & Mick in recognition of their support of the region which aided the Region winning a National Award for its Season Ticket project.
