EAST MIDLANDS CPSA NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2012
Good Morning East Midlands Shooter
First of all many congratulations to those of you that got amongst the medals in the last month, and of course congratulations to our regional ABT shooters who represented the East Midlands so well at the English Open at Southern Counties Gun Club, full details of that and lots more can be found on our website.
As we say goodbye to July for another year and we herald in August, it’s probably a good time to reflect on how badly the weather has decimated attendances at shoots up and down the country.
If the situation was not bad enough already with the prolonged economic downturn, mother nature conspires to make it worse still. Saying that we have not fared too bad in the region as you the regional shooter seem to turn up no matter how bad the conditions, and when the sun does pop its head around a cloud we get a superb attendance at events such as the UT. A change of venue from Nuthampstead to Rugby two years ago seems to have worked wonders, and John Nightingale and his team have managed to revive the flagging attendances culminating with a superb entry of over seventy shooters at the recent Regional Championship.
We have an event on Saturday August 4th again at Rugby that may interest you, that of ZZ Helice. If you have never had a go then you should beat a path to Rugby as it really is great fun and really is one of those disciplines that must be tried. Don’t worry if you have never shot it, there is a practice session before the main event, and you never know……….it could be you that is crowned the 2012 East Midlands ZZ Champion.
The very next day (Sunday August 5th) we kick off the Intercounties calendar with the first event the ABT at Nottingham with Team Suffolk again defending the Directors Trophy. If you are not shooting as a county team member then no matter, as there are always spaces available and as is always it’s open to everyone……contact details to aid you to book on and Sat Nav directions for both events are below.
In September we get really into the action with four Intercounties event coming thick and fast, and it’s probably about the right time to enquire to your County Secretary about qualification for your own county team. Whilst on the subject of Intercounties shoots, please be aware that we have had to change the date of the Intercounties Sporting, although the venue of Sporting Targets remains the same we have moved the date to October 28th because of a clash ……so please make a note of that in your shoot diaries.
Finally I would just like to wish all our East Mids shooters the very best of luck at the World Sporting Championships being held at Sweetslade in the Cotswolds this week. We have some of the best sporting shooters in the country and I know we will see a few podium finishes……..and very finally, best wishes and good luck to our England Team Manager Richard Hunter (Suffolk) and Ed Solomons (Leics) England Team Captain, and of course the rest of the England team who will be flying the flag with a strong challenge expected from Team USA and the Home Countries.
