INTERCOUNTIES FITASC

NORFOLK TRIUMPH IN THE KEGWORTH SUNSHINE

The second of our team events was the Intercounties FITASC, and Kegworth Shooting Ground was the host venue for this two day event. John and his team had cut their teeth over the last few years with some of the Regional Championships and this year was handed the responsibility of this event.

I am pleased to report a healthy attendance of 111 shooters which is an improvement on last year, although it is tinged with sadness that we still fell 13 teams short of a full complement, many Counties unable to field teams in Juniors,Ladies & Veterans.

Norfolk Seniors claimed the team title with Richard Bunning top scoring with an excellent score of 91, D.V. Gooding was next best on 88. Norfolk’s final score of 345 ex 400 was well clear of nearest challengers Bedfordshire on 337, Andrew Clifton top scoring on 90 to give them the Runners up glassware.

In Ladies it was a two way race between rivals Suffolk & Norfolk with the Suffolk girls coming out on top. Pauline Chapman top scored for the Suffolk trio on 74, Pearl Butters & Karen Bedingfield completed the winning line up to finish with a team score of 137 ex 200.

In Juniors five Counties fielded teams which is very encouraging, and it’s good to see youngsters coming into this discipline. Harry Seal from Cambridgeshire who is vastly experienced at this discipline was the Junior High Gun on the day with a superb score of 87, but it was not enough to secure the Junior Team title for Cambs. Leicestershire Juniors took those honours with Alex Morgan top scoring on 82 and J Hiner chipping in with 73 to give them a winning score of 155 ex 200, some seven clear of nearest rivals Lincolnshire.

In Veterans once again it was the Leicestershire Vets that overcame, but it was the closest of calls. Leicestershire recorded a score of 169 ex 200, John Wells best for Leics with 87 to beat Suffolk by a solitary target, who in turn had Lincolnshire breathing down their necks a further two clays behind.

Finally many thanks to John and his team at Kegworth for flying the Regional Flag almost single handed for the weekend.
