Regional DTL Championsip 2013

NO FUSS FOR RUSS !!

Sixty shooters enjoyed glorious sunshine at Nottingham & District for the Regional D.T.L. Championships and the 4th Round of the East Midlands Supreme Championships.

Three tons were recorded on the day, the first from Lee Kirby from Hereford & Worcester who finished on 100/298, another ton was from highest scoring regional shooter and the new East Mids Champion Russ Hufton from Nottinghamshire who scored 100/297.

Russ got off to the perfect start on layout one and just three second barrel kills, one on each of the last three rounds to give him victory. It was so very close though as Jan Powell from Lincolnshire was heading Russ at the halfway mark with the perfect score 50/150. He was still one point in front at the ¾ stage and then a solitary clay avoided both Jan’s barrels to push him back into the runners up berth.

Notts junior Curtis Woolley not content with just fighting over junior spoils once again featured in the senior result. He finished joint third on 99/294 with Andy Brown, and Eric Cundall shooting out of B Class recorded the third ton of the day to join them, unfortunately Andy had left the ground and it was down to Curtis and Eric to fight over the bronze medal. A 25 bird shoot off saw Curtis romp to victory as just two second barrel kills blighted his scorecard to give him the bronze medal.

Curtis could also be content with his days’ work as he once again took the junior title but fellow Notts shooter George Lewis ran him very close with Curtis getting the narrowest of victories. George in turn was clear of another Notts shooter Freddy Brown who completed the placing’s by taking bronze.

In Ladies Leanne Powell of Lincs dominated things with a comfortable seven point victory over runner up Sarah Tyers from Leicestershire. Leanne’s winning score of 99/293 only damaged on the second round as just one clay got past the gun unscathed. Sarah put in two solid middle rounds 25/75 & 25/74, but her first and last rounds just took the title out of her hands. Hazel Whiten making the long trek from Cambridgeshire got off to a great start hitting 50 straight but her effort just petered out, but she just did enough to take the bronze medal.

In Vets it was that man Ken Rimington on home territory who just edged out Mike Brookes from Leicestershire with the slimmest of wins. Both shooters finished level on 99 kills but Ken just squeezed that extra point that made all the difference to finish on 99/293 and take the Vets title, Mike having to settle for Runner Up and the silver medal.

In third place Brett Aisthorpe from Lincolnshire and John Aldous who had made the mammoth trip from Suffolk finished all square on 96/286, sadly Brett had left the ground so John was awarded the bronze by default.

Many thanks to Carl, Linda, Julia and the team at Nottingham for a great days shooting.
