Regional FITASC Championships

WILKO WINS THE FITASC.

Congratulations to Paul Wilkinson on becoming the East Midlands FITASC Champion, with a score of 89 ex 100.

John Wroughton from Kegworth Shooting Ground reports:

Layouts A1 “Hedgerow” was a 16 bird layout which Paul straighted without much issue.

Layouts A2 “Spinney Field” was a little trickier, again 16 targets, but including a long range quartering away Chondel from hoop two and a long range right to left crosser and a tricky battue combination, this layout cost Paul 3 of his 11 targets missed.

Layout B1 “Earth Banks” (Hoop one), shot from on top of a 12 ft. high bank down on to a crop field below gave a deceptive perspective on a number of the targets, a massive Chondel target looping from right to left was to cost several targets, along with a selection of longer birds on hoop two, costing four targets in all.

Layout B2 “Field Corner” was two very different hoops, set at 90 degrees to each other giving a totally different view of the birds from each hoop. Only one bird in the doubles was missed here.

Layout C1 “Rose meadow” was a tricky layout and a little subject to the 30 mph gusting winds that were present both days, but this stand was straighted well by Paul.

C2 & probably the hardest layout of the course for most of the shooters, was to cost a further three targets, a low crossing white target with a tree background which dropped quickly to the floor.

Paul beat the next highest scorer Nick Hendrick to The £200 High Gun prize, sponsored by Kegworth Shooting Ground Ltd.

In the battle for regional acclaim John Lee claimed the runners up title, and Simon Davis picking up third.

In Ladies a trio of our England Internationals claimed the first three places, Rosie Brumby well clear to take gold, Becky McKenzie in silver who was in turn well clear of bronze medal winner Rachael Willcock.

Martin Doughty last year’s overall Champion had to settle for the Vets title, with John McKenzie runner up, and regional regular Brian Dunbavin taking the bronze.

In juniors it was a familiar story with rising star Taylor Hedgecock dominating to take the gold medal, and Bedfordshire duo David Ferriman and Adam Longstaff taking silver and bronze respectively.
