DTL Weekend

REGIONS JUNIORS PREVENT A WHITEWASH

Last weekend was the always eagerly anticipated DTL Weekend sponsored by Blaser at Bywell Shooting Ground.

Over three main days of competition trap shooters from far and wide come together and fight over the spoils of the Sponsored DTL, the Dougall Memorial and culminating with the English Open DTL on the final day, where us with a regional team interest start to really take notice.

Its always a tough ask for our regional shooters at this event with the North Region having such a firm grip on things, so it is with considerable pleasure that I report that our junior team prevented a clean sweep in the team events. Although our senior, ladies and veterans teams shot valiantly they were unable to mount a challenge against the North, but our juniors flew the flag with a superb victory.

The Ladies team finished runners up to the North with a score of 511/600, L Powell 265, R Jarvis 246 and H Whiten 239.

The Vets’ team also finished runners up to the North just 9 points behind with a team score of 572/600, K Rimington 288, N Lovatt 284 and J Winn 276.

The Senior team could only finish 3rd overall with a team score of 1434/1500, M Smith 296, C Woolley 287, M Shaw 287, L Clements 283, C Morris 281, P Smith 276, A Brown 276, R Hufton 271, P Neal 266 and A Leak 259.

But our juniors trounced the North with a superb team score of 571/600 with Joe Booth top scoring on 98/287 and ably backed up by fellow Notts county shooter George Lewis on 97/284. Alex Harris from Leicestershire completed the winning score with a 95/281 to record a victory by 23 points.

A special mention is saved for another Notts shooter Freddy Brown who was the reserve in the junior team and recorded the best score with a 98/290, which was also good enough to win him the English Open Colts title….well done to the juniors and Freddy, and to all those that qualified to represent the England team.
