Regional Single Barrel Championships
NOTTS YOUNGSTERS SHOW THE WAY
As usual the Single Barrel Championships held in the heartland of trap shooting Nottingham, attracted a healthy entry of 51 shooters, 37 of which resided in the East Midlands region.
The blustery conditions with changing light quality did little to dampen people’s enthusiasm and the winning scores were more than respectable for a regional championship.
Leading the way for the home county shooters was Curtis Woolley who is no stranger to success at any level; the multiple winning former junior dispatched his first 50 targets for the loss of just three, and then finished the job off in some style by straighting the last 50 to win the senior title with a score of 97/100.
The runners up berth was more of a congested affair with 4 shooters finishing level on 95/100, George Lewis and Chris Twigger from Notts, Barry Dunmore from Lincs and Chris Morris from Cambs. When the shoot off was called George was the only one available to take part, the others all unfortunately long since left for home or another shoot. This meant that George was awarded the runners up medal, and in their absence the remaining three were decided on count back with Chris Morris being awarded third place overall.
George also had the honour of being the Junior Champion some six targets in front of another Notts junior Freddy Brown, Freddy in turn just edged out another Notts lad Joe Booth by a single target.
Another multiple winner of regional shoots, Leanne Powell from Lincolnshire, took the Ladies honours with a score of 91/100, narrowly beating Cambridgeshire’s Hazel Whiten by 3 targets, Sarah Tyers from Leicestershire completed the 1-2-3 with a bronze medal score of 81/100.
In Veterans Barry Dunmore 95/100 of Lincs was comforted on missing out on senior honours by taking the Vets title just two clays in front of regional regular Ken Rimington from Nottinghamshire, Ken in turn being 3 targets in front of D Ivey from Cambs who took the bronze medal.
Finally, many thanks to Carl and all the team at Nottingham for once again hosting this event.
