Bumper Weekend for Skeet Shooters
BUMPER WEEKEND FOR THE REGION’S SKEET SHOOTERS
It really was a superb few days for the regions skeet shooters at the British Open at Bisley with not only individual but team honours as well.
As you would expect from the premier skeet event in this country there were a few tons littering the scoreboard, and I’m pleased to say that regional shooters accounted for half of the six perfect scores, so many congratulations to Pete Bloomfield (Suffolk), Chris Jarratt (Lincs) and Chris Morris (Cambs).
But as we know scoring a ton is half the battle, that generally only gets you into the shoot off, so many congratulations to Pete Bloomfield who recorded another straight in the shoot off and then it took another twenty targets to declare him the British Champion with a nice little bonus of the Veterans title and then more success winning the Veterans Inter Region team title after a shoot off alongside John Miller of Notts and Spencer Basham of Suffolk.
In the Ladies it was the Queen of Skeet Joy Hirons from Leicestershire that for the fourth year running repelled all challengers to win on 98/100, but this was just one of a few trophies for Joy as she accompanied Tracy Miller from Notts and Izzy Russell from Northants to win the Inter Region Ladies team title, and to top it off Joy was part of the winning 5 Man Team “The Untouchables”.
The day just kept getting better when the regional Senior Team also swept to victory, recording 496/500 they tied with neighbours the West Midlands, but our shoot off trio of Andrew Lea (Northants), Simon Hill (Leics) and Chris Jarratt (Lincs) saw us home to victory, so it’s more congratulations to Andrew, Simon and Chris plus Neil Faulkner, Craig Owen & Mick Russell (Northants), Chris Morris (Cambs), Darren Parsons & Robbie Manning (Suffolk) and Peter Cook (Cambs).
Unfortunately our Junior Team narrowly failed to make it the perfect day but as two of the team are still in Colts they can hold their heads high, so take a bow Ollie Main and George Owen from Northants and Tom Tristram from Nottinghamshire, the latter getting some consolation by winning a shoot off with a perfect 25 to take the Runners Up spot in Colts.
Further congratulations must go to Adrian Last from Suffolk for winning the Disabled Sitting High Gun Trophy, Sam Nunn of Suffolk winning the Disabled Standing High Gun, Neil Long Runner Up in Disabled Standing and to Craig and George Owen who won the Father & Son Trophy, Craig also becoming the Class A High Gun after a shoot off.
Many thanks to all that represented the region so well, and with final thanks to Alan Bott of Leicestershire as Team Manager.
