Intercounties ABT - 2015

Lincolnshire wins the ABT as Suffolk claim the Directors Trophy – Again!

Nigel Watson, Nick Pearce & Marvin Houghton - Lincolnshire

The final round of the Intercounties series of six shoots was held at a sunny Nottingham & District GC, this time with the bragging rights of the ABT up for grabs, and in addition the final points of the Directors Trophy to fight over.

74 shooters arrived at the ground to take part in an ABT format that is unique to the region, whereby the grounds fully qualified refs take control and you shoot all the way through with no breaks, and no need for shooters to run the abacus or sound that annoying horn that heralds you’ve missed a target……as if you need reminding you’ve missed!

Traditionally this has always been a straight fight between the trap shooting counties of our region, namely Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, although I can recall the occasional upset over the years, but for this year anyway it was a familiar story.

The trend this year has been close finishes and even one tie in the FITASC, and again in this event we had a nail biting finish with Lincolnshire just edging over the line with a victory of just one target over Nottinghamshire.

Lincolnshire finished on 362/400 with Jack Wilkinson top scoring on 94/100; he was ably supported by Dave Sipling 91, Nick Pearce 87, Marvin Houghton 86, Nigel Watson 88 and Brian Wilkinson 89 to take the winners glassware.

Nottinghamshire who came so close had to settle for the runners up ½ pint mugs, R Crowshaw top scored with a magnificent 96, the remaining team members were Lee Clements 89, Russ Hufton 87, Peter Armett 87, Paul  Meakin 89 and E Lawson 76.

Janet Stennett, Jackie Houghton & Tracy Bridge - Lincolnshire

In Ladies it was those Lincolnshire girls who once again claimed yet another trap accolade, Jackie Houghton led the way for Lincs with a superb 87, Janet Stennett 79, and Tracy Bridge 64 doing enough to get them over the line to win a seven target victory over Nottinghamshire who had Rachel Parish as top scorer on 88.

In Veterans it was a five way team battle with Nottinghamshire claiming the title over nearest rivals Lincolnshire. Once again it was Ken Rimington that top scored for Notts with a superb 91/100, he in turn was ably supported by Paul Brown 63, Mick Feather 83 and Ash Parfrement on 77 to give them victory, Dave Shepherd top scored for Lincs on 87/100.

Mick Feather, Ken Rimington, George Lewis, Jack Richards & Matt Hall - Nottinghamshire

In Juniors it was a case of the faces change but the result remains the same as Notts once again rolled more young trap shooters off the production line, George Lewis once a novice in junior shooting has now become a senior member of the team and led the way with an 88 ex 100, Jack Richards and Matt Hall completed the line up to give them a resounding victory over Norfolk, George's score was also good enough to win him the Junior HG Trophy.

Once again we offer our thanks to the good folk at Nottingham & District for an enjoyable days shooting, not forgetting the refs and staff.

So the Intercounties has drawn to a close and Suffolk have retained their Directors Trophy title getting the necessary points at the ABT to win on 33 points, with Cambs and Notts joint runners up on 30 points.
