Single Barrel Championships 2016
The Perfect Start for Paul
The East Midlands Regional Championships got underway at the weekend with the East Midlands Single Barrel at Nottingham & District Gun Club.
The day’s early shooters were greeted by a fog covered scene with no real visibility to speak of, but it did not deter or detract from the scoring, in fact young Joshua Brazier from Lincolnshire shooting on the 1st squad thrived on the testing conditions and rattled up 97/ 100 in rapid time to sit him proudly at the top of the leader board.
In the junior competition his score stood the test of time to give Joshua his first regional title, Notts regular Freddy Brown was the only one that got anywhere near the score required and in the end fell three shots down, Izzy Thurnell making the long trip from Norfolk completed the placings by finishing third.
In Ladies it was Hazel Whiten from Cambridgeshire taking the title. Hazel making good use of her free entry thanks to winning the Regions Season Ticket for 2016 scored 88, to just out point Tracey Bridge from Lincolnshire by two clays, Sarah Odam from Nottinghamshire completed the 1-2-3 by taking the bronze medal.
In veterans it was three familiar regional faces that finished in the medal placings, Nigel Lovatt from Lincolnshire taking the gold medal on 98, just pipped Ken Rimington from Notts by one point, with a former Season Ticket winner Steve Bridge from Lincolnshire in third.
In the overall competition the standard was incredibly high given the conditions at some stages of the day, it was going to take something special, and that something special was provided by Notts man Paul Meakin, who served up 100 of the best to take the East Mids title, scoring the narrowest of victories over Nick Rose from Lincs and Lee Willcoxson from Notts who were tied on 99/100. A full round of 25 targets in a shoot off separated the pair with Nick just getting the better of Lee by a score of 22 to 21.
Many thanks to the 40 shooters that got us underway for the season, and as always we thank Carl and the team at N&DGC for looking after everyone and providing a great days shooting.
Finally many thanks Toledo LC Photography for supplying the photographs......don't miss the ones below !
