Regional Skeet Doubles 2016
FAULKNER AT THE DOUBLE
Yesterday (July10th) the East Midlands Skeet Doubles Championships were held at Northampton Shooting Ground in difficult conditions, with strong gusting winds playing havoc with the occasional target, it certainly wasn’t a day to take any clay for granted.
In the overall competition it was a former England Skeet Captain and Northants regular Neil Faulkner who coped the best with a superb score of 98 to take the title. Runner up was Joy Hirons from Leicestershire, who by her own admission had not shot her best the previous week but bounced back in great style to finish on 96 after missing four birds on her first layout. It was a double dose of success for Joy as her score was also good enough to take the Ladies title, third overall went to another Northants shooter Mick Russell after a shoot off.
Michelle Conway of Cambridgeshire was the runner up in Ladies with a score 86 and current Ladies Skeet Champion Izzy Russell from Northants third on 82.
In Vets it was Nott’s raider John Miller rewarding the 180 mile round trip back to Nottinghamshire with a score of 95 to take the title, Richard Bird also making it a long day out with the journey from Lincolnshire and was rewarded with the runners up spot with a score of 92, and it was up to Martin Ferris to fly the flag for Northants by claiming third spot on 91.
In juniors it was a good day for Notts Colt Tom Tristram who completed the skeet double having already won the Skeet Regional Championships last month at Eriswell Lodge, Tom’s score of 95 was four clear of Ollie Main and Henry Collins from Northants who both tied on 91, Ollie just getting the better in the shoot off to give him the runners up spot, Henry having to settle for third.
Many thanks to everyone at Northampton Shooting ground and as always the shooters that continue to support the region.
