Regional Double Rise 2017
EAST MIDLANDS DOUBLE RISE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ken Rimington, Russell Houghton & George Lewis
A superb attendance of 43 shooters, 35 of which were regional shooters, were rewarded with warm sunshine with a mistral breeze, and a wonderful day’s shooting courtesy of Carl Smith and the team at Nottingham & District Gun Club.
The competition shot over 100 targets saw Paul Meakin and Ken Rimington leading on 43 ex 50 at the halfway stage, with Rob Denoon just one clay behind, and a whole host of shooters in the chasing pack, including the eventual winner who was three targets adrift, and in about 9th place.
Although most of the main contenders increased their second-round scores, one shooter, Russell Houghton who had made the long journey from Norfolk, stood head and shoulders above the rest, recording the perfect second round score of 50 ex 50 to take the Senior title by just one clay, finishing on 90/100, a solitary clay in front of East Mids regular Ken Rimington, but at least Ken had the Veterans title in his pocket to console him.
East Midlands Ladies Supreme Championship Winner Hazel Whiten from Cambridgeshire added to her long list of regional titles and took the Ladies title, but the drama of the day was still waiting to be played out as Notts juniors Jack Richards and George Lewis had finished all square on 85/100, and a 25 pair shoot off was needed to separate the two, with George running out the winner scoring 42/50 to Jacks 35/50.
As always, we convey our thanks to all the team at Nottingham, and of course the shooters of the region for providing a superb day’s competition.
The Regional Championships now move to Grange Farm for the East Midlands Sporting Championships on April 23rd.
