East Midlands English Sporting Championships 2018

SPORTING SCORCHER AT SPORTING TARGETS

170 shooters were greeted by warm sunshine in what was to turn out as the hottest Early May Bank Holiday since records began, and although Sporting Targets laid on transport round the course many were flagging in the heat by the time they reached the tower on Stand 12.

In the final reckoning Richard Bunning and Marcus Clifford both from Norfolk finished tied on 90 and as both shooters had left the ground earlier in the day, countback was used to resolve the situation, and Richard came out on top by a margin of 1 clay. In third place shooting in the last squad of the day was David Ferriman from Bedfordshire, David fell just one target short of making it a three-way tie at the top which would have seen him crowned as Champion, being the only shooter present available for a shoot-off.

Another shooter in the last squad of the day was Becky Elmore from Bedfordshire who recorded a score of 71 to take the ladies title by one target over Amy Hedgecock from Cambridgeshire, completing the 1-2-3 was Rose Palmer from Northants who recorded a score of 67.

In veterans John Wells from Leicestershire took the title scoring 87 by two clay over Brian Dunbavin from Cambridgeshire, who in turn edged in front of Tony Leonard also from Cambridgeshire by one clay.

In Juniors it was good to see Taylor Hedgecock from Cambridgeshire at the top of the junior leader board recording a score of 81 to take the title, in second was Sam Houghton from Leicestershire on 75, and in third Craig Hollick from Bedfordshire completed the day’s proceedings.

Many thanks to Andrew and his team at Sporting Targets for an enjoyable days shooting.
