Regional DTL Championships 2018
Steve’s Ton Takes the Title
Alex Banning & Steve Janes
Another gloriously sunny day this time gracing proceedings at the East Midlands DTL Championships held at Northampton Shooting Ground with 36 shooters from the region attending.
Steve Janes from Bedfordshire ran out the winner with a superb 100/296, and Steve was particularly pleased as it was his first ever ton at Northampton that gave him the title, although he was sweating it out at the end, as one or two shooters mounted a concerted effort until the final layout decided the fate and destination of the regional title.
Runner Up was Steve Eley from Cambridgeshire carding 98/292 taking the Silver medal, just a solitary point in front of Niall Crumpler from Norfolk who finished on 99/291 to give him the Bronze medal.
Ladies Champion - Hazel Whiten (Cambs)
In Ladies reigning East Midlands Champion Hazel Whiten took yet another East Midlands victory to retain the title for another year recording a very respectable score of 92/269.
In Veterans Keith Taylor finished 3 points clear of his nearest rival and Leicestershire teammate Mike Brookes and Hughie Peters from Suffolk, Keith recording 97/287 to take the title, with Mike settling for Silver despite being tied with Hughie on 95/284 and 97/284 respectively, both shooters had left the ground, so the result had to be determined by countback giving former Senior and Vets Champion Hughie the Bronze medal.
In Juniors it was Alex Banning from Northants who has really burst onto the East Midlands radar following his victory in the Skeet Championships and his runner-up finish in the Skeet Doubles. Alex recorded 94/276 in what was only his second registered score in this discipline to take the title over his nearest rival and county teammate Ollie Main.
Many thanks to Martine, Pete and Roy at Northampton for some excellent DTL targets and a well run event.
