Intercounties & Regional ZZ Championships

ZZ GETS OFF TO A FLYING START

Cambridgeshire - Team Champions

I’m extremely pleased to tell you that the very first East Midlands Intercounties ZZ Helice was held at Rugby & District GC and was deemed to be a great success and a fabulous starting point for future ZZ events in our region.

The shoot was held on Sunday (April 28th) in conjunction with the already established East Midlands Regional ZZ Championships and attracted a record attendance for any ZZ shoot in our region with 43 shooters.

Thank you to our sponsors TMA Bark & Lyalvale Express

Much of this is down to Donovan Jenkin from Lincolnshire, who had arranged sponsorship of trophies and a huge cash prize of £250 to the winning team, so many thanks to him, TMA Bark and Lyalvale Express for their fantastic contribution and help in getting things off the ground.

We had five out of the eight counties enter a team and hopefully next year we can build on that, so more thanks should be extended to the Team Managers and shooters for their help in this maiden venture.

The team event was a close-run thing all the way through to the final rotation after a series of 24 targets per shooter with Cambridgeshire eventually running out the winners scoring 59/72 from their top three scores, narrowly defeating Lincolnshire and Suffolk by just four targets, with Leicestershire fourth and Nottinghamshire in fifth.

Senior & Junior Champion - Connor Harris (Leicestershire)

In the individual Championships, Leicestershire Junior Connor Harris missed the first target out and then proceeded to clear up the next 23 in his first ever ZZ shoot to give him the Senior and Junior titles.

Top - Michele Conway (Cambs) Super Vet Champion

Bottom - Jane Bell (Cambs) & Donovan Jenkin (Lincs) Joint Vets Champions

Cambridgeshire shooter Michele Conway won the newly formed Super Veterans title scoring 19/24, Jane Bell also from Cambs and Donovan Jenkin from Lincolnshire finished all square on 19/24 in the Veterans title and shared the honours and Kelly Johnson from Suffolk completed the podium places by winning the ladies title on 20/24.

It would be unfair of me to conclude this report without mentioning the HG of the day, although from out of our region you have to tip your hat to Marcus Iddon from Shropshire who for the second ZZ shoot running was flawless scoring 24/24…...excellent shooting Sir.

Getting ready for the big pick up !

Once again, many thanks to Donovan and our sponsors, and finally and never least many thanks to John Nightingale and his team at Rugby, John is a first-class host, I just wonder why it took me so long to find out what I had been missing.

Many thanks to John Nightingale
