East Midlands Intercounties ABT 2019
NORFOLK WIN THE REGIONAL CURTAIN CLOSER
TEAM CHAMPIONS - NORFOLK SENIORS
The East Midlands CPSA lowered the curtain on its 2019 season with the Intercounties ABT at Nottingham & District Gun Club yesterday (Sunday 27th October) on what turned out to be a very cold day with a strong wind from left to right, but thankfully it never rained unlike the day before.
First of all many apologies to anyone that was watching the days events unfold on Facebook and our webpage, we had IT problems all day that culminated in the web page crashing 30 minutes before the end of the shoot and the live scoreboard being wiped clean of all the scores. Thankfully a frantic half an hour or so saw the page rebuilt and the scores being reinstated just as the last squad came in. Sadly though it didn’t end there for me as I later learnt that the camera I used to take the presentation photos had a hissy fit as well and had not saved the photos, all I could retrieve was the repeated message of “software error”, not the best end of the season for me, but hopefully I can obtain a few photos from a third party, fingers crossed.
As for the competition, as usual being the home team Nottinghamshire got things underway for us and set a respectable score of 347/400 for the remaining teams to aim at. Darren Watkinson top scored for Notts on 88 with Adrian Snell 86, Rob Denoon 87, Elvin Lawson 86, Granville Hodgkinson 83 and Mick Feather 71. Suffolk got the closest to the Notts total finishing on 340 with Stuart Smith and Paul Neal joint top scoring on 86, but it was Norfolk shooting in the final squads of the day that comfortably breezed past all comers to record a finishing score of 366/400.
SENIOR TEAM RUNNERS UP - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
Jason Matthewson top scored for the Norfolk team with a superb 95/100 and was well supported by Robert Flowers 92, Richard Gilbert 92, Niall Crumpler 82, Andy Bowers 87 and Simon Owen 85 to give them the winners glassware and Nottinghamshire having to settle for the runners up berth and Suffolk third.
LADIES TEAM CHAMPIONS - LINCOLNSHIRE
In Ladies there were just three teams competing from Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire and it was the Lincs Ladies who came out on top by an impressive 36-point margin finishing on 160/200. Jackie Houghton top scored on 82 and was ably backed up by Janet Stennett 78, Caroline Hawkins 68 and Saira Boardman 72.
WILLIAM GILBERT (NORFOLK) - JUNIOR HIGH GUN
In Juniors we had just two teams from Norfolk and Nottinghamshire and despite the superb score of 89 from the Junior High Gun on the day William Gilbert, Norfolk couldn’t do enough to beat the home team of Notts who had Ollie Sampson on 85 and Matt Hall 75 to give them victory.
JUNIOR TEAM WINNERS - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
In veterans we had a five-team competition and it was the Lincolnshire quartet that just held on for a win despite a late charge from the Norfolk team. Lincs recorded a slender 4-point victory to finish on 176/200 with Marvin Houghton top scoring on 90, Dave Shepherd 82, Michael Cooper 86 and Norman Smith 78 completing the winning line up.
VETERANS TEAM WINNERS - LINCOLNSHIRE
Many thanks to Carl and his team at Nottinghamshire GC for another enjoyable day, and his much-appreciated words at the presentation.
That’s it then for another season and once again many thanks to you the shooters, without you and your constant support we couldn’t exist. The fixtures for the 2020 season will be decided in December and hopefully we can quickly get the dates for your diaries by mid-January.
Finally, and certainly not least many congratulations to Team Suffolk who once again dominated the Intercounties series of shoots and won the Directors Trophy comfortably for the umpteenth time, a thoroughly deserved victory.
Winter well and we will see you in March 2020.
