iNTERCOUNTIES DTL 2022

SENIOR TEAM CHAMPIONS - LINCOLNSHIRE

INTERCOUNTIES DTL 2022

HELD AT NOTTINGHAM & DISTRICT GUN CLUB

ON SUNDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER

It was a warm day but it was grey and overcast particularly for the early squads of the day.  Nottinghamshire, as always, were the first squads of the day out on the layouts and posted some really good scores in seniors with Pete Armett scoring 295, Lee Wilcoxson (292) and Darren Brown (290) which with their supporting team gave a final team total of 1724.

Continuing with the Notts theme Hayley Denoon, following on from the Notts lady’s victory at last week’s I/C sporting, lead the ladies challenge with a 288 supported by Lena Taylor’s 274.  Russ, “Mad Dog”, Hufton posted a 295 supported by Andy Cain’s 293 to post a team score of 588 and not to be outdone the Notts juniors, Joe Turner and Connor Davis posted a team score 569 all of which were sufficient to give these three categories unbeatable scores.  Joe’s score of 285 also earned him the title of junior high gun of the day.

Next up were the Lincolnshire squads and what a performance they put in.  Paul Smith missed the first bird out but finished on a 296 with Stuart Whitehead, Andy Jackson, Nick Day and Mike Burton all finishing on 294 followed by Mark Shaw and Pete Atkin on 293 so with 6 scores from 8 to count their worst score was a 293 but both Norfolk and Suffolk have some pretty competent shooters so Lincolnshire could not say with any degree of confidence that it was a done deal until it actually was and as usual it basically came down to the last squads of the day before the final outcome was decided.  The Lincolnshire squads had been in this position many times before, often waiting around for the whole day only to find they were beaten by Norfolk or Suffolk so on this occasion they were relieved when the scores from Suffolk finally came in, in spite of 100/299 and 100/298 from Geoff Howlett and Paul Neal, to show a margin of 17 points giving Lincolnshire a clear win.

Although none of the other categories could make a dent in Nottinghamshire’s performance there were some very note-worthy individual performances which deserve a mention.  Lincolnshire’s Saira Boardman put in a brilliant performance and a personal best of 99/293.  Notts junior, Olivia Stevens also scored a personal best of 279 and 11 year old George Dilley put in a lone junior score for Lincolnshire of 251, again a personal best.

Congratulations to all who took part.  The day was, as usual, beautifully run by Nottingham & District Gun Club.   The banter was good natured so all in all a very enjoyable days shooting.
