DTL WEEKEND REPORT
REPORT ON DTL WEEKEND – 9/10/11TH JUNE
What a weekend for our East Midlands shooters. For once Bywell Shooting Ground was bathed in sunshine for the entire weekend which always makes shooting more pleasurable but at the same time makes the competition tougher as the variable of battling the elements is diminished.
Huge success for Nottinghamshire’s Joe Turner who took the top podium place on all 3 days with Edward Armett, also from Notts, taking 3rd place in juniors on the sponsored day and 2nd place on Day 2, the Dougal.
There were 6 100/300’s recorded on Day 3, the English Open and one of those was Leicestershire’s Alex Harris. This score combined with, brother, Connor’s score of 100/297, gave them the Womble trophy
Huge congratulations to all who achieved individual honours
But the one we were all waiting for was the much-coveted Regional Team Trophy. It tends to be a battle between the North Region and the East Midlands with some very tight margins every year but following our success last year we were keen to do it again this year and do it we did. With Team Captain, Curtis Woolley, leading the way with 100/298 the rest of the team demonstrated an enviable consistency – Steve Janes (Beds), Connor Harris (Leics) both on 100/297, Geoff Howlett (Suffolk) 99/297, Stuart Whitehead (Lincs) 99/296, Paul Neal (Suffolk) 100/294, Lee Wilcoxson (Notts) 98/287, Marty Smith (Lincs) 97/287, Paul Meakin (Notts) 97/286, Mark Shaw (Lincs) 97/284 but every one of these superb scores was needed as we ran out the winners by just 6 points. Huge congratulations to the team for a good job well done.
