DTL WEEKEND 2024
ENGLISH OPEN DTL
HELD AT BYWELL SHOOTING GROUND
ON SATURDAY 8TH JUNE
REGIONAL TEAM REPORT
Bywell Shooting Ground is one of the most immaculately presented grounds in the whole of the UK but the inclement weather in Northumberland almost always ensures that the targets are challenging, and this year ran true to form. The reports describe the conditions as “blustery”, but the East Midlands has some really big hitters in the senior team all well capable of putting in 295+ so when you see scores of below 290 you know it is rough and perhaps “blustery” doesn’t cut it but if our team struggled so did the others.
Happily, for the 3rd consecutive year the East Midlands senior team picked up the trophy beating the North by just 6 points. Top scorer for East Midlands was Suffolk’s Paul Neal on 288 supported by Curtis Woolley (284 - Notts), Geoff Howlett (278 - Suffolk), Steve Janes (276 - Beds) and Paul Meakin (276 - Notts).
Success also for the ladies team of Olivia Stevens (Notts), Saira Boardman (Lincs and Georgina Chamberlain (Cambs). In the conditions, Olivia shot exceptionally well scoring a 282 but you can’t win these things on your own so back up was needed from Saira (258) and Georgina to give the team a win by quite a big margin.
The junior team of Edward Armett (Notts), Joe Turner (Notts) and Joshua Kind (Leics) so nearly made it a triple for the region but were beaten by the North by just 1 point – how cruel is that!
Not surprisingly the locally based North Region veteran team had a commanding lead in this category but congratulations to our vets of John Mansfield, Gary Boardman, and Paul Hurton who took on the targets and the elements. After being blown off the pegs I bet they were pleased to retire with a cup of tea and bacon sandwich!
Many congratulations to all of our teams – this was a good result for the region so you should be proud of yourselves.
