INTERCOUNTIES DTL 2024
EAST MIDLANDS INTERCOUNTIES DTL – NOTTINGHAM
Sunday 22nd September 2024
Well, that was a day with constant rain from virtually the first to last squad and with the harsh wind it was mostly driving rain.
I have to say most have gone home wetter than an otter’s pocket, but having said that apart from the anti-rain protesters that didn’t turn up, the majority were up for the challenge.
Nottinghamshire were first off, and some fair scores went on the board, amongst them was Edward Armett who posted the highest score and only ton of the day with a 100/296, winning him overall Junior High Gun.
Although a “moist” day the competitors soon lined the “Corridor of Broken Dreams” to keep a watchful eye on proceedings and there were changes a plenty as last-minute no-shows had to be removed, and teams rebuilt to keep the entry each county needed to field a team.
Travelling from far and wide 77 brave and hardy souls faced the elements and fought hard for their county and as much as I would like to say as the dust settled there was no dust only puddles, Nottinghamshire were triumphant in both the Veterans and Juniors with Cambridgeshire running away with the Ladies team win.
In second place overall were Suffolk but with Janet Stennett presenting the prizes it was clear to see that she was as happy as someone who pays for a chocolate bar at a vending machine and it drops two as she announced that the winning overall team was Lincolnshire, winning by a clear 24 points.
Congratulations must be given to everyone that took part and to all the team at Nottingham who braved the element’s all day.
To the winning teams, a fantastic effort today keeping your focus in that weather was amazing and the glassware was well deserved.
And to my team I thank you for sticking with it keeping the wheels turning and providing once again a faultless event.
