East Midlands DTL 2025

DÉJÀ VU AT PRIORY IN THE DTL

You could be forgiven thinking you had already seen this result a week earlier as the DTL result today at an immaculately presented Priory CTC was virtually the same as the week before at the Handicap by Distance and Double Rise.

As most of us shooters do before we set off for the ground a cursory glance at the weather forecast is always the order of the day, and in line with the recent weather nothing more than a sharpish sea breeze was forecasted, but just as the first squad were making their way to the layouts driving rain decided it was going to make an appearance. As comedian Peter Kay used to say, it was the type of rain that would soak you right through and with the wind it felt noticeably colder, thankfully though it only lasted half an hour and by the time you had completed you had dried out and headed indoors for possibly the best brew in the region.

In the final reckoning Aaron Heading from Lincs took the title on 96/285 despite claiming he needed the practice and narrowly pipped in form Ian Warsap 96/284 who was just one point behind. Paul Smith made it a 1-2-3 for Lincolnshire who also finished on 96 but with a few more escaping the first barrel to give him 280 points, by the way that’s Aaron’s second title in a week after winning last weekend’s East Midlands Double Rise.

Ian may have been disappointed to finish Runner Up, but he won the Vets making it 4 titles in a week in the region. Richard Croft from Cambs finished in the silver medal berth on 91/259 and John Toombs from Lincs finished third on 86/254. In Ladies Cambs shooter Georgina Chamberlain took the title on 93/274 comfortably clear of Joanna Fairclough from Suffolk on 81/239, with Jane Bell and Liz Mcgreggor White tied on 81/239 in third but with Jane unavailable for a shoot off Liz from Lincolnshire took the bronze medal by default.

Rhys Dixon from Norfolk was the lone shooter in Juniors but still shot a credible 92/260 giving him his third East Midlands title in a week.

Many thanks to Aaron and Natasha and of course the refs and staff, and as I have said, the ground looked a picture, and the tea was the best…. now if they can just do something about that rain.

Finally many thanks to Tim and Jane Jones for overseeing proceedings on behalf of the East Midlands Committee.
