East Midlands Regional DTL Team Report
EAST MIDLANDS REGIONAL DTL TEAM REPORT
ENGLISH OPEN DTL
HELD AT BYWELL SHOOTING GROUND
ON SATURDAY 7TH JUNE
Arguably one of the best shooting grounds in the entire country, for quality of targets, ground presentation, hospitality and attention to detail the team at Bywell cannot be faulted but the weather doesn’t always play ball. Generally speaking, the weather was pretty good but if you were caught in one of the intermittent “showers” it was a tad unpleasant.
As team events go the battle between regional teams at the English Open DTL are always a cliffhanger. It is usually a very close-run contest, and this year was no exception.
Success for the East Midlands came from the Ladies and Junior teams with some outstanding scoring from Edward Armett in the juniors. Over the Bywell weekend, Edward had scored 100/296, 100/296 but surpassed even that on the last day with a 100/299. With just 10 points separating the top 2 teams the back-up scores from Leicestershire’s Joshua Kind (97/286) and Lincolnshire’s George Dilley (96/286) were pivotal to securing victory for the team.
Suffolk’s Joanna Fairclough capped off her successful weekend with a very solid 99/288. The supporting scores from Nottinghamshire’s Olivia Stevens (96/279) and fellow county teammate, Georgina Chamberlain (93/275) were enough to put the East Midlands ladies 5 points clear of their nearest rivals.
For the last 2 years the East Midlands senior team has snatched victory by the slimmest of margins. Unfortunately, this year the tables were turned with the North region just edging ahead by only 3 points, scoring 1479/1500 to East Midlands’ 1476/1500.
There were some excellent contributing scores with Leon Gill of Northants the man of the match with an incredible 100/298 supported by Curtis Woolley (99/297), Steve Janes (100/296), Paul Neal (99/293) and Alex Harris (100/292).
The Veteran’s team also had to settle for second place, again just 3 points behind the winners. Top scorer for the team was Cambridgeshire’s Stephen Eley who put in a very impressive 100/296 supported by Marvin Houghton on 95/281.
Congratulations and thanks for taking part to all our team members – you all shot superbly well. Special congratulations to our winning Junior and Ladies teams. You all did us proud.
