EAST MIDLANDS INTERCOUNTIES DTL
LINCOLNSHIRE - LADIES TEAM WINNERS
It would be a brave call to predict trap specialist counties Notts and Lincs wouldn’t feature in the Senior honours, braver still to predict that Directors Trophy heavyweights Suffolk and Norfolk wouldn’t make the frame, but that’s what happened, and on closer examination of the teams it probably wasn’t a shock, with the winning team Leics & Rutland coming “mob handed” boasting Connor & Alex Harris and eventual Junior High Gun Joshua Kind in their side.
82 shooters made the starting gate with 7 counties having some representation and the conditions were largely favourable with heavy cloud starting the day that gradually thinned out in the afternoon. Thankfully the heatwave conditions were relenting making it much more comfortable to shoot in. There was the merest suggestion of a breeze, and probably the only grounds to blame the weather for a poor day in the office were the ever-changing light conditions that saw the occasional shooter go through a range of coloured lenses.
In the final reckoning Leicestershire & Rutland ran out winners by 8 points with a team total of 1726 points with Joshua Kind top scoring on 296 and he was well backed up by Connor Harris 295, Alex Harris 100/293, Richard Walne 292, Mike Brookes 281, Neil Farnsworth 269, and Jason Linnell 264.
Runners Up Cambridgeshire fielded an equally strong team with Paul Neal top scoring on 295, Richard Morris hit a ton finishing on 100/294, narrowly beating Dad Chris on 290, with the remainder of the team being Chris Hall 289, Phillip Barnard 284, Giovanni Russo 266, Andy Oakey 258, and Stephen Eley who had to retire after 50 targets.
SENIOR RUNNERS UP - CAMBRIDGESHIRE
NORFOLK - VETS TEAM WINNERS
The Vets team title couldn’t have been closer with Norfolk beating arch rivals Suffolk by a single point causing a club house postmortem by the Suffolk shooters to try and workout how they let the title slip through their fingers…..sorry I cannot report their findings but I understand the suspected culprit was forced to get the brews in as the enquiry took place.
Congratulations to the Norfolk quartet of Richard Gilbert 291, Rob Flowers 285, Paul Owen 274, and David Smith 233, with commiserations to the unlucky Suffolk side who had Robbie Manning top scoring on 289.
With Team Lincolnshire conspicuous by their absence from the winners circle it was down to their Ladies to restore a bit of county pride running out comfortable winners. Liz MacGreggor White top scored on 283 and was well backed up by Jackie Houghton 262, Janet Stennett on 220, and Nicola Mason 252.
Sadly, we were well down on Juniors this year with just two attending, and another drafted into the senior team, George Dilley from Lincolnshire was the highest scoring junior team member of the day with a very respectable 96/278 and as previously mentioned Joshua Kind from Leicestershire was the Junior High Gun on 99/296.
Many thanks to all the team at Nottingham & District for another well-run event on well-manicured grounds, the Intercounties now moves to Northampton SG on July 27th, with the East Midlands Regional Sporting Championships the day before (Sat) at Chalk Farm.
