EAST MIDLANDS DTL TEAM REPORT

ENGLISH OPEN DTL

13TH JUNE 2026

(L-R) Ed Armett, George Dilley, Joshua Kind

The “Bywell Weekend” is a major event in the DTL calendar.  In addition to the opportunity for personal glory there are also on offer a variety of competitions over the week with the final day, the English Open including the regional team event.  This gives the opportunity for each region to submit their top shooters to pit themselves against the other regions.  It is not possible to do a report on Bywell without mentioning the weather and, unfortunately for this shoot it was the worst day of the weekend.  Not wet but very, very, windy making for some testing targets.

Of recent years it has been a nip and tuck battle between the East Midlands and the North Region with the East Midlands taking the senior team honours over the last couple of years by just the slenderest of margins.  Both regions have some very talented and experienced DTL shooters so the outcome can never be predicted until the very last shot is fired which this year saw the North Region run out as winners again by a slender margin of just 6 points.  Top scorer for the East Midlands was Bedfordshire’s Steve Janes on 293 closely followed by Notts shooters Curtis Woolley (291), Lee Wilcoxson (290) and Paul Meakin (289) and Cambs shooter Paul Neal on 289.

Our junior team are proving to be unbeatable as, once again, they picked up the team trophies.  Top scorer was Notts shooter Edward Armett (284) supported by George Dilley (Lincs) on 279 and Joshua Kind (Leics) on 267.

In football parlance we should give a shout out for the individual achievements of some regional members, particularly the juniors.  Harry Briggs-Price (Notts) took A class and Junior High Gun on the sponsored day with 100/297 and followed that up over the following 2 days with junior silver with a 97/286 and 99/287.  The ever-consistent Edward Armett also featured on the leader boards of all 3 days with a 99/295, 99/294 and a 98/284 as did George Dilley (Lincs) who picked up Colts high gun each day with 99/292, 94/268 and 96/279.

Richard Morris finished the sponsored day as runner up with 100/299 and a shoot off score of 24/71.  Three East Midlands shooters, Paul Neal, Curtis Woolley and Steve Janes put in 100/297 for the Dougal trophy.  The closely fought shoot offs saw Paul Neal run out the winner, Curtis Woolley runner up and 3rd place to Steve Janes.

Congratulations and well shot to all those who took part.
