EAST MIDLANDS I/C DTL

HELD AT NOTTINGHAM & DISTRICT GUN CLUB

ON SUNDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

On a fine, sunny, September day there is no finer place to be than shooting as part of the Lincolnshire DTL team at Nottingham & District Gun Club.  This competition between the 8 counties of the region always provides a good mixture of excellent shooting and friendly banter and as always no-one could forecast the winner until the bitter end.

A few of our team members got off to a shaky start with Pete Atkin, Nick Day, Chris Bone, Megan Williams and Richard Gray all dropping 6 points on their first line but after that there was no stopping them with Pete dropping only 1 further point to finish on 98/293 and Nick only 3 further points to finish on 99/291.  Sadly, for the senior team, in spite of some excellent final scores it was not enough to pick up any glassware.

The veteran team had a "nearly" day being beaten by Nottinghamshire by just 8 points.  John Winn lead the scoring finishing on 98/292 dropping an uncharacteristic 2 targets on his last line.  Mike Burton, on the other hand, started badly with an equally uncharacteristic 67 but followed this up with 2 x 75 straights and a 71 to finish on 97/288.  Also backing up the team were Richard Gray (95/284) and Nigel Lovatt (91/270)

However good news was to come as both the ladies and juniors swept all before them.  Saira "unstoppable" Boardman was on fine form to finish on 98/287 and was ably supported by Rosie Parkinson on 93/273.  Rosie is proving to be an exceptional all round talent.  Winner of the Lincolnshire sporting she has since proved well able to turn her hand to other disciplines and was shooting her first 100 bird DTL competition - so not a bad performance and collected some glassware along the way as the girls finished 11 points clear of their nearest rivals.

Megan Williams soon recovered from her disappointing first round score of 69 to shoot a very confident 98/290.  Team mate, Ollie Roberts, put in a very solid 94/275 to give them team victory.  Megan's score also earned her the title of junior high gun, beating Nottinghamshire's Ollie Sampson by just one point, this being the first time that this title has ever been won by a junior lady.  Megan is going from strength to strength this year and at just 19 is going to be showing a clean pair of heels to the competition for some time.

Congratulations to all the team members - a job well done.

Thanks, as always, to the brilliant team at Nottingham & District Gun Club for a well run shoot and the friendly welcome you can always expect from Carl and the team.

Apologies for the poor quality of the photographs - either the photographer is in the wrong place or the sun is!!
