EAST MIDLANDS ABT CHAMPIONSHIP
HELD AT NOTTINGHAM & DISTRICT GUN CLUB
ON SUNDAY 24TH JULY
A bright but windy day greeted our Lincolnshire shooters for the East Midlands ABT championship so, in theory, the targets should have been difficult. Perhaps they were, but that didn't prevent the best of our ABT shooters from putting in some very commendable scores. The ever reliable, Jack Wilkinson, put in a 94 which for a while was a winning score. Jack always take some beating but 16 year old Jack Brazier is really on fire this year and his score of 96 put him in the top three overall and put him in yet another shoot off with veterans, Allan Warren and Pat Dickman. This time experience triumphed over age with both Allan and Pat each scoring 2 targets more than Jack but for the second time in a matter of weeks Jack took home 2 medals, 3rd overall and junior champion.
Also facing a shoot off were Saira Boardman (Lincolnshire) and Lena Taylor (who emigrated from Lincolnshire to Nottingham last year) for the silver and bronze positions in ladies with Lena coming out on top with a 5th round score of 19 to Saira's 15 but Saira still adds another medal to her growing collection.
Other scores of note are Mike Burton who put in a very solid B class score of 91 with both Gary Boardman and Phil Porter scoring 87 in C class.
An entry of 68 for an East Midlands ABT championship is the highest entry for this event since records began (2004) so competition was very fierce indeed. Congratulations and well shot to all those who took part and thanks, as always, to the team at NDGC for a superbly run event.
