REVESBY COUNTRY FAIR

HELD AT REVESBY ESTATES

ON SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST

Lincolnshire CPSA were pleased to be back at Revesby Country Fair this year after a two year, covid induced, absence and what a day it turned out to be.  Having been starved of this very traditional family day out for so long it seemed as though the whole county couldn't wait to get out and enjoy themselves and whether your interest was "Dancing Diggers", classic cars or floral art there was something for everybody.

We offered the opportunity for people of all ages and all genders to try their hand at our sport under the watchful eyes of our experienced instructors.  We also offered a 10 bird single barrel and 25 bird sportrap for the competitive clay shooter.

As always, the Have a Go section proved to be immensely popular with people wanting to shoot almost before we opened our doors and it was good to welcome once again those who had visited us two years prior.  The weather could not have been better and the crowds of visitors were quite content to sit in the sunshine and watch the excitement as our instructors guided everybody, from little kids to more senior citizens, into hitting their first clays.  By the end of the day we had absolutely smashed our previous record of 231 as our final tally of prospective new shooters for this year reached 297.

Competition was keen for both the single barrel and sportrap as both competitions had generous high gun prizes sponsored by East of England Shooting Ground (sportrap) and Farmstar Ltd (Single barrel).

The sportrap proved to be very challenging and for a long time 17 was the score to beat.  Tim Wade raised the stakes by one more but the final victory went to Trevor Hawkins who followed up his first round score of 17 with a 20 then finally a magnificent score of 24 to take the £100 high gun prize.  Second place went to Tim Wade and third place to Marvin Houghton.

However, Trevor was not finished there as he went on to match Andy Marron's perfect 10 single barrel and then won the ensuing shoot off by two clays claiming his second high gun prize of the day of £50.  Not a bad days work!!

We are very grateful to East of England Shooting Ground and Farmstar Ltd for their generous support of our competitions and thanks also to Grimsthorpe Shooting Ground, Brandon Wood Shooting Ground and Trackside Airguns and Archery for their kind donations of raffle prizes.  A special thanks also to Rob Hall at East Yorkshire Clay Shooting Ground for the loan of the sportrap layout.  We are very lucky indeed to have such support within the shooting community and all contributed massively to the success of the day.

Last, but by no means least, we have to thank all those volunteers who helped to make this a brilliantly, successful day.  Members of the committee and their helpers were on hand from 7 a.m. until close of play at 7 p.m. and worked tirelessly all day long to make sure everybody saw the very best of our sport in a safe and enjoyable way.

Take a bow :

Paul Stennett, Donovan Jenkin, Richard Gray, Richard Thompson, Gary & Saira Boardman and Caroline, Marvin and Jackie Houghton, Dave and Jackie Shepherd, Tony Woodcock, Chris Bone, Trevor Hawkins and Brett Aisthorpe.  You really are super stars and a credit to our sport.

There is no denying that this day is extremely hard work for them but their reward and the real buzz for them is seeing the smiles on people's faces and hearing the cheers and applause from the crowds as the clays break into a thousand bits.  The good natured banter, the "side bets" made between family members, the obvious enjoyment of the occasion, not to mention the complimentary comments the instructors receive as they take people through their paces makes the whole day an absolute delight and showcases our sport in the best way possible.

We will be back next year and if anyone would like to join this "happy band of brothers" please drop us a line.  It is an experience not to be missed.
