Notts v Lincs All Round Challenge
NOTTS V. LINCS ALL ROUND CHALLENGE
HELD AT NOTTINGHAM & DISTRICT GUN CLUB
ON SUNDAY 23RD JULY
The remainder of the Lincs squad picking up the Notts v. Lincs All Round Challenge Trophy
L-R : Janet Stennett, Paul Stennett, Carl Smith (presenting) & Tony Woodrow
Early last week a "call to arms" went out to Lincolnshire shooters to help the county to retain the Notts v. Lincs All Round challenge trophy. With 10 scores to count from each county we were pleased to see that fifteen Lincs shooters responded to the call which put us in very good shape to stave off the competition from Notts. Unfortunately due to other competitions like the British Open skeet and the ABT selection shoot, Notts were only able to muster a team of 8 so scores were taken from the top 8 of each county which gave Lincs a considerable advantage as we were able to choose from a bigger pool.
Lincs had a further advantage in that many of our shooters were fresh from the East Midlands Intercounties All Round competition held the weekend before so were well up for this event. Our top scorer was Robin Ley with a superb 91, closely followed by Graham Elkington and John Winn on 90. Sporting shooters, Chris Milner and Tony Woodrow more than held there own in the trap disciplines finishing on 89 and 84 respectively. The winning line up was completed by Richard Gray (88), David Dale (85) and Janet Stennett (79) giving us a combined score of 696.
So the trophy returns once more to Lincolnshire. There have been a couple of years missing but from the previous 10 years Notts and Lincs have won the trophy in equal numbers. This year now puts Lincs one ahead so next year should be interesting!
The weather turned out better than expected as for most of the day it was mild, with slight sunshine and a little breeze - not so lucky for the last squad of the day as they got wet.
Thanks as always to Carl and all the staff at Nottingham and District Gun Club for a very pleasurable day's shooting.
