NATIONAL INTERCOUNTIES ABT

HELD AT EAST YORKSHIRE CLAY SHOOTING GROUND

ON SUNDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

Although it is the end of the season there was no waning of enthusiasm for the National Intercounties ABT held last weekend.  With twenty squads to get through an early kick-off was essential with the first squads going out at 9.0 am. including some Lincolnshire team members.  The early morning chill was soon replaced with quite acceptably warm temperatures even though the sun and clouds chased each other all day long resulting in changing visibility.

With the exception of a lady’s team, Lincolnshire was able to field a full complement of senior teams, a veteran’s team and, that very rare beast, a junior team.  We also had some big hitters from the ABT world so we were hopeful of taking some silverware home and we were not disappointed.

Our junior team, both of whom are colts and both of whom are new to ABT competitions, performed really well and picked up the junior medals and trophy.  Congratulations to George Dilley and Jayden Wilson – we will, no doubt, be seeing much more of them in the future.

The veteran team finished just a whisker away from first place being just one point behind Derbyshire.  John Winn straightened his first and last lines to finish on an awe inspiring 97 with team mates, Marvin Houghton and Dick Cooper both finishing on 82.  To be so close is always disappointing but to pick up anything at these hotly contested shoots is no mean achievement so congratulations to them.

Individually it couldn’t have been better as Dave Sipling swept to the top of the leaderboard and stayed there with a magnificent 98 to give him the overall win of the day and John Winn’s 97 gave him the veteran high gun trophy.

Thanks to Rob, Sean and all the team at EYCSG.  The shoot ran seamlessly, the targets were first class and everyone had a great day.
