EM I/C All Round report

LINCOLNSHIRE ALL ROUND TEAM

EAST MIDLANDS INTERCOUNTIES ALL ROUND

HELD AT NORTHAMPTON SHOOTING GROUND

ON 8TH SEPTEMBER

A massive thuderstorm during Saturday night brought back memories of last year's East Midlands Intercounty All Round which saw our early squads squelch their way back to the clubhouse but, no worries this year, as the morning dawned bright and sunny.  For those who are familiar with Northampton Shooting Ground you will know that the sun is a very mixed blessing as all layouts, except the sporting, face into the sun which can make visibility against the dark green bank very tricky.

The first Lincolnshire squad was out at 1.0 pm and produced some exceptional scoring from Dale Houghton (93) and Richard Hall (88), ably supported by Phil Porter (79) and two new recruits to a Lincolnshire team, David Clarke (82) and David Johnson (77)

Squad 2 also produced some stunning results.  John Toombs straightened the single barrel, John Winn straightened the ABT and Jackie Houghton produced the most controlled single barrel score ever seen by the refereee, Colin Butler, as she had all the no birds on the line, 5 in all, and still finished on a 21.

Scores were building nicely as squad 3 lined up for the single barrel.  Of all the layouts the single barrel was perhaps the most difficult to see with peg 5 proving the most troublesome, so all those who put in a good score here were doing well.  Richard Gray went into the last peg just 2 targets down but dropped 4 out of the last 5 to finish on a disappointing (for him) 19 but things looked up from there as he scored 23 on ABT, 23 on skeet and 22 on sporting with the culprit here being the left to right crosser which accompanied the rabbit.

In spite of some excellent individual scores the senior team were not able to make any impression on the massive scores but in by the local Northants team.  The veteran team came close, being beaten also by the Northants team by just 1 target.  The ladies all worked solidly together and at the end of the day there was nothing to choose between them with Jackie Houghton and Janet Stennett on 74 and Lizzie MacGreggor White on 71.  Alas, there was no competition due to lack of other ladies teams but nevertheless a good team score is always about all the team scoring consistently and this is exactly what they did.

The excellent individual scores have contributed massively to our standing for the coveted East Midlands Directors Trophy.  After 3 disciplines we are lying in 2nd place with just one point in it.  Click here for the latest leader board.

Congratulations to all those who took part.  There is always good banter at the East Midlands Intercounty shoots so everybody had a good time.  Everything went off without a hitch so congratulations also to Martine and team at Northampton Shooting Ground.
