NATIONAL INTERCOUNTIES ALL ROUND

HELD AT NOTTINGHAM & DISTRICT GUN CLUB

ON SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

We have done rather well for All Rounds just lately in this neck of the woods with the East Midlands All Round at Northampton being followed by the East Midlands All Round championship at Nottingham and now, also on our doorstep, the National Intercounties All Round.  Notts and Lincs are always big supporters of this discipline so can always be relied upon to field a team but, although there was a decent entry of individuals, there was clearly not enough of an entry from each county to put in a team so only Essex and Staffordshire joined the county competition.  However as long as there is more than 1 there is a competition and they all certainly made their presence felt with Essex almost stealing the show.  Notts were able to hold them off in the seniors by just 4 targets but Lincolnshire had to settle for their coat tails in the veterans and the ladies with the veteran team just 3 targets back.

In spite of the lack of outright wins, there was some very good shooting from our squad.  Trevor Hawkins carded a 90 closely followed by Phil Porter (88), Pete Atkin (87), and Richard Hall, John Winn and Dale Houghton all on 84.

In the vets Marvin Houghton scored 85 and John Toombs 79.  This combined score lead the pack until the last squad of day when Essex rained on our parade.  Unfortunately Mike Burton had to stand down at 50 due to not feeling too well - hope you are feeling better now Mike.

The ladies team did well with Jackie Houghton (78) and Lizzie MacGreggor White (71) putting in a good solid team score.  Each had their own strengths and weaknesses, for Jackie the sporting is always a challenge and in this competition the sporting was particularly difficult so to finish on half is not too bad.  Lizzie, however shot the sporting exceptionally well, scoring 17 but didn't like ABT much.  The two were able supported by our newbie to competitive team shoots, Nicola Mason whose bogey discipline was skeet.  That is the beauty of an All Round there is always something you do well and something which eludes you totally.

Well shot to all the teams.  It is quite rare for Lincolnshire not to come away from a team shoot without a bit of something so well done for gaining runners up in 2 categories
