In Memoriam
William Alan Johnson, better known as J.J. or Johnny Johnson. CPSA No. 5855.
Retiring in 2021 as the Chairman of S.E. Region CPSA Committee after many years of unstinting service to our sport of Clay Target Shooting.
His commitment to our sport has been impressive over many years.
His long journey within the Sport started whilst he was serving as a Detective Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police, in the early 70s’ after attending a Northern Police Clay Shoot. As a result of this experience he wrote an article in the MP Newspaper, the ‘Job’ asking for like minded Officers to join him in forming a Met. Police Clay Target Shooting Club. His request was successful and the Club celebrated it’s fiftieth anniversary in 2019.
J.J. has been involved with the administration of the CPSA in excess of 48 years.
He became a member of the CPSA in 1974 (CPSA No.5855) and joined the South East Region Committee from 1976, at this time the Committee met at The Students Union Building in London. This was the beginning of a long professional relationship with Sandie Buckler. At this particular time Dr. Bodkin Adams was the Region’s Treasurer.
In the 90s’ J.J. took over the running of the Association becoming the CEO, President, Chairman, all rolled into one. The Association was practically bankrupt and as a result he made the decision for all members to pay a ‘£1 Levy’ when renewing their subscriptions, in order to get the association back onto it’s feet financially. The initiative succeeded.
During his time within the Association, he has held the position of GB/England Team Manager for various disciplines. Travelling abroad on many occasions. Also an International Licensed FITASC Referee, travelling with the GB FITASC Team to various Countries.
J.J. became a ‘Life Vice President’ for his work during the 90s’.
