EAST MIDLANDS INTERCOUNTIES SPORTING
HELD AT KEGWORTH SHOOTING GROUND
ON SUNDAY 4TH JULY
For those whose chosen discipline is sporting it was a treat to shoot a very well thought out round at Kegworth SG on Sunday. Not only were the targets well presented, with nothing out of range and nothing you couldn’t see, the threatening rain clouds held off all day so apart from the odd spit everyone stayed dry.
Lincolnshire were one of the few participating counties to enter full teams for all categories so we were pleased to come away with some success. Historically, in spite of having some exceptional shooting talent in the county, we have never particularly showed what we can do but this year was pretty good.
The cream of the crop and the only team to secure an outright win was the junior team. Kallum Burrell is used to winning so it was no surprise that his superb score of 88 was the team high gun but also earned him the Junior High Gun for the event. But this year Kallum was joined by 3 young shooters who, undoubtedly, have a long way to go. Ollie Caswell only joined CPSA this year so does not have many registered competitions under his belt but put in a brilliant back up score of 84 as did Henry Sardeson and Ella Bennett on 70 and 58 respectively.

The senior team came the closest they have ever been to securing top slot with a team score of 500 just 9 points behind Notts to give them the runners-up glassware. Top dog for Lincolnshire was Trevor Hawkins, who racked up one of only 3 scores above 90 in the team event but he was also ably supported by the rest of the team, Jack Dean, Paul Zaitschenko, Steve Townsend, Pete Atkin, Martin Harker, John Allenby and Phil Thomas.

The ladies also secured the runners up position but, alas, no awards are given for second place as they were also beaten by a Notts team. Saira Boardman and Georgina Barratt are old hands at team events and this year were joined by Lisa Burton, last year’s ladies sporting champion and Rosie Parkinson, this year’s ladies sporting champion. Good team scores are always those where the scoring is grouped closely together and our team achieved this with Rosie on 64, Georgina on 69, Saira on 63 and Lisa on 42.

The hardest category of all to win is veterans and the age and experience of the Beds and Leics teams relegated us to 3rd place this year. Top scorer for Lincs was Alan Marshall on 84.
