EAST MIDLANDS INTERCOUNTIES ALL ROUND
HELD AT NORTHAMPTON SHOOTING GROUND
ON SUNDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
With the quality of the teams we were fielding we could be forgiven for being quietly confident but as we all know things can go awry and we were up against some fearsome opposition with the home team starting as firm favourites. The light conditions were changeable - sometimes heavy cloud and sometimes sunshine so it was not unknown for competitors to change glasses mid round and a hat proved to be an essential piece of kit for many. The targets were well presented and the number of entries meant that, at least, everyone shot the same layouts so a fair and level playing field.
Some disappointed faces came off the single barrel layout with no-one quite figuring out why it was so tricky but when a pro like John Winn comes off with a 21 it makes you nervous. Things looked up after that with a few of our team members putting in 24's on the ABT. John completely redeemed himself by putting in the only 25 straight on that layout (ever, I think).
There was some superb scoring from many in our team with Pete Atkin on 94, Richard Gray on 92, John Allenby and Phil Porter both on 90 at the end of play for us we sat on a senior team score of 520, a veterans team score of 175 and ladies of 156 so we found ourselves leading the field in all 3 categories. An anxious wait followed as score after score came in and we still held our position.
Mid afternoon, Bedfordshire declared at 527 slipping our seniors into a possible runner up position. We all held our breath as the final scores for Northamptonshire were added up. Much relief when theirs totalled 519 so the runners up place was secured.

Unfortunately the ladies were not quite so lucky as the final Nottinghamshire ladies score pipped them by just one point. Both ladies, Georgina Barratt and Rosie Parkinson, finished on the same score of 78.
The veterans held on to their lead. John Winn was only 5 points down at 75 with Richard Gray only 6 points down. Richard only dropped 2 on the sporting to finish on a superb 92 but a few got away from John but his final score of 83 was sufficient to secure the team win.
