NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Website : DTL County Championship 2018
The Nottinghamshire County DTL Championship was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on Sunday 1st July with a total of 48 shooters in attendance, 30 of those from Nottinghamshire. A beautiful sunny day with a light breeze lifting the clays, giving good target visibility and the promise of some high scores on the day. And as promised the shooters certainly didn’t disappoint with a total of seven 100s and a lot of other good scores shot on the day. The reigning champion, Andy Brown, was one of the first of the favorites to tackle the layouts and proceeded to fill them in without a nerve in sight. Only losing a point on his last layout for a score of 100/299, Elvin Lawson was next to hit 100, and it was his first 100 straight, but with a loss of four points so not quite enough to worry Andy. Elvin’s 100 was followed by Ken Rimington, after a second barrel on his first layout Ken held his nerve and showed his trap pedigree shooting faultlessly on the next three layouts to tie with Andy on 100/299. Another four tons were to follow throughout the day from Lee Clements, Paul Meakin, Darren Watkinson & Adrian Snell but all with points lost for second barrel kills. With nobody managing to hit the magic 300 it was down to a shoot off to decide the winner between Andy Brown & Ken Rimington, unfortunately Andy had an appointment and left the ground after shooting, unable to return, leaving Ken to take the Championship for the 10th time in the Championships 65 year history.
Ken also collected the Veterans Title, a clear 20 points ahead of his next rival in the category. In the Ladies Sarah Odam retained her title beating Hayley Denoon by 9 points and finishing on 94/271. Ollie Sampson won the Colts title and Freddy Brown rounded off the categories with the Junior Title. In the classes it was Andy Brown who had to settle for the consolation of the AA shield, Tony Clark added to his silverware collection and took the B class and Pete Cook led the field in C class.
The A Class title had to be resolved via a shoot off – both Paul Meakin and Darren Watkinson were level pegging on 100/297. Unfortunately for Darren he missed his first target which put the control firmly in Paul’s hands, he piled on the pressure by only dropping 1 point and making it impossible for Darren to recover so Paul added the A class title to his list of rather impressive accomplishments already this year.
Finally we would like to thank Carl and his team for a very well run event.
