The Nottinghamshire English Skeet County Championship was held at Nottingham and District Gun Club on Sunday, 16th July 2017. The weather improved as the day went on, with the morning squads facing some quite dark cloudy conditions, whilst the afternoon brought some lovely sunny blue skies. There was enough breeze throughout the day to affect the targets, making some of them ‘interesting’ at times.

A total of 30 Nottinghamshire shooters were able to take part in the competition, with the Championship finally being won overall by Tom Clifford with an excellent score of 98. The category honours went to Tom Tristram in Colts, with a score of 95 and John Miller in Veterans, with a score of 97.

Jenny Hilton led the Ladies category throughout most of the day with a score of 91 but at the end of a long day of shooting, Karen Donnelly matched her in one of the last squads out. A shoot-off for the title followed, with Jenny dropping two targets to Karen’s one, leaving Karen as the eventual winner in Ladies. This was made all the more impressive as it was Karen’s first ever registered competition!

The Class winners were Simon Fox (AA) with a score of 95, Barry Fox (A) on 96, Pete Armett (B) on 97 and Rob Denoon (C) on 94.
