West Midlands Inter Counties Sporting Doveridge 22nd September, with a closed selection policy, fixture clash with the Home International and a number of withdrawals it was a somewhat unfamiliar looking county squad went north, a Bronzemedal from the Junior Team of Luke Russell 87 and Samuel King 71 being our only team success. Nick Portlocks 93 as county high gun saw him into the regional final where Nick finished second.

Pull! October 2024

Sportrap County Championship Barbury 24th August,

On a very hectic weekend fixture wise, with the staging of WM Inter counties events pulling entries 15 of you braved some very hostile bank holiday weather which took clays off everyone all day. County Champion Matthew Lawless 80, Runner Up and Veterans also Kevin Childs 79 and in Bronze Stewart Keen 78. Ladies Jennifer Young 78 and Luke Russell Juniors 74

FITASC West Midlands Area and Intercounties Garlands 24th & 25thAugust,

Most of the team shot on the Saturday in the worst of conditions, the overall team score of 437/500 took Silver place, this being just 3 targets away, very well done Tim James, Nick Portlock, Robert Wise, Troy Thornell, Matt Turk and Ivan Reid, more so given the lack, in some cases no FITASC shooting by some in the previous 12 months. In the individual event Rob Wise 91 Bronze in Veterans and Troy Thornell 83 Bronze in Juniors.

ABT West Midlands Area and Inter Counties Garlands 25th August,

Am unsure of the six person team members, however thank you to Stuart Jones, Jeremy Ayshford, Dave Smith, Rob Wise, John Marzionner, Joanne Knapman, Liam Richings, Martin Knapman, Mike Turvey, Blain Sadler and Brian Richings for entering the event, the team score of 399/500 just a few off a medal place, in the individual event there were Gold medals in Ladies for Joanne Knapman 75, and in Juniors Liam Richings 73.

Sporting, Ian Coleys 7th August

In B class 2nd George Pearce 86, George now racing into A class. Westfield 26th Aug in AA 94 saw Matthew Turk in 2nd it was 1st in B Luke Purkis and in C a 3rd placing for Lloyd Birch 77. Westfield 1st September, in AA 3rd Adrian Johnson 92 and in C class it could have been a one two three with 1st Rob Ireland 84, 2nd Lee Pearce 81 followed by targets only 77 by Judith Gilder.

CPSA British Open English Sporting, EJ Churchills at Swinton, 27th-31st August,

26 of you from the County made the long trip north, Sam Usher, Nick Portlock and Alan Bullock winning places for the finals day. Highest scores in class being in AAA Sam Usher 110, AA Rob Wise 104, A Matthew Davies 96 and in B Luke Purkis 87, there were no C class from County, which I believe is a first.

Mr Robert Wise, many congratulations on both winning another Sporting England Cap and the Captaincy for the Home International, Rob will be joined by another Gloucestershire shooter Adrian Johnson, shoot well both.

County Championships,

Super Sporting – now moved to Saturday 26th October - Westfield – squadded shoot so please for all entries contact ground.

Pull! September 2024

Correction - All Round County Championship, Park Farm 9th June, The Veterans title was won by Martin Knapman 70ex100 not Brian Richings 67ex100. Sorry for the confusion.

English Skeet, County Championship, Gloucester 7th July,

Despite being under the radar a healthy 23 entries ensured healthy competition across the classes, and we really do have some very impressive trophies for English Skeet. County, A class and Junior Champion by a single target is Liam Richings 97, Runner Up and AA class Paul Tudge 96 Third and C class Chris Tudor 93, Dave Smith 91 won B class after a tense shoot off against Martin Knapman, Ladies Joanne Knapman 90 and Cliff Gardner 92 took Veterans.
British Open Nottingham 2nd-4th August, Martin Knapman shot a 96 to win the B class

Olympic Skeet, West Midlands Area and InterCounties Gloucester 21st July,

Despite the superb weather sadly the event didn’t attract as many as one would have hoped for, well done to the county team David Maddox, Graham Rendall and Brian Robinson for winning silver. Gloucester is one of the few grounds offering Olympic skeet both practice and competition, one wishes them well in being able to continue to do so.

Sporting, Ian Coleys 3rd July

In A class 2nd Ben Hughes 91 and 3rd Mark Salter 88, Westfield 21st July Adrian Johnson 94 for High Gun, in A class Jon Pitts 1st 90, equal 3rd Kevin Childs 88, and in C class sharing 1sthaving both shot 78 Michael Gart and Leigh Mccaffery. Westfield 4th August, 2nd in A Dave Smith 87 and 2nd in B Leigh Mccaffery 80.

FITASC, County Championship Westfield 12th & 13th July

Champion Tim James 83, Veterans Adrian Johnson 79 and Ladies Chloe Applin 79, am unaware if Adrian and Chloe had a shoot off, countback or shared 2nd and third places. The county team for the InterCounties was Im told quite a challenge selection wise this year, the country are grateful to the following who will be off to Garlands on the 24th & 25th August, Tim James, Nick Portlock, Robert Wise, Troy Thornell Matt Turk and Ivan Reid, good luck all. Troy Thornell is also to be congratulated for winning his place in the England FITASC Junior team for the Home International in October.

SuperSporting West Midlands Area  Garlands 28th July,

Very well done Adrian Johnson 89ex100 winning Silver in Veterans.

Matthew Panter, Matthew is by far the counties most active trap shooter, and its very well done for firstly his 195ex200 for for Runner Up at the 200 ABT English Open Nuthampstead 20th July, Matthew then followed this up at Fauxdegla posting 194ex200 across the two days then holding his nerve in a shoot off in winning his third consecutive ABT World Championship title, many congratulations.

Pull! August 2024

All Round County Championship, Park Farm, 9th June

Congratulations to County Champion Dave Smith 91, second Rob Wise 87, third Joanne Knapman 80, Joanne pipping Amanda Gallagher for the Ladies title also. Veterans was won by Brian Richings 67 and Junior by Ellis Luker 64, once again the County extends it thanks to all at Park Farm for kindly hosting the event.

Old Downs Pursuits
The popular non-affiliated ground run by long serving CPSA stalwarts Sean and Sharon O’Keefe has closed, the last day of shooting being 16 June. Sean was planning to retire at the end of the year but a change of land ownership brought the closure forwards. I wish Sean Sharon and all at Old Downs all the very best in the future.

Sporting
Ian Coley’s hosted the annual Blaser Cup, as the event was a non CPSA shoot and results and prize lists are seemingly nowhere to be found. Westfield 16 June, in AA Luke Russell third 88, A Class third also for Kevin Childs 83, George Pearces another B Class 78 for second, and in C Class win for Leigh Mccaffrey 68. Westfield 30 June in A CLass it would have been a win for Terry Beard only his 91 was targets only, Andrew Philips 88 sharing second, a win in B Class for Ian Stephens 86, third in C Leigh Mccaffery 76.

FITASC
Many thanks to all at Ian Coleys for hosting a team fund raising Sportrap, one hears it was a roaring success. Ian Coleys 19 June, a date clash with the English Open Super Sporting pulled many of the counties finest away, the ground is recovering well from the major works and expansion undertaken over the last 18 months and is attracting FITASC shooters from all over the country, a slight tweak in format so there is a short break after shooting two parkours rather than the four straight through being a recurring feedback comment.

12-15 Jun: English Open Super Sporting, Barbury

Personally, I’m still rather confused as to the classes in this new discipline as not only are so many shooters still showing as being in no class, some classed on day and some Sporting shooters seemingly in a much different class as to their Sporting shooting ability, all will hopefully come out in wash so to speak, but it is indeed still odd looking. As for the event itself a healthy number from the county and on the very first day George Pearce shot an 90 in B this being joint first place in class, a tense shoot-off saw George into second in B, very well done.
9 Jun: English Skeet
A full house in A Class Liam Richings 96, B Class Martin Ferret 94, and C Class Jack Blandford 86.
Compak
Congratulations to Troy Thornell for winning a place in the Junior Team for the up coming World Championships in
Hungary August 2024.
