Nottinghamshire Down The Line County Championships 21st May 2023.

 

Well with the weather finally breaking and some warm sunshine it was time to take to the ranges for the Nottinghamshire down the line championship at Nottingham and District Gun Club.

This is also the Nottinghamshire selection shoot for the East Midlands Intercounties event later in the year.

A strong northerly wind was always going to make it tricky but the very first squad set the pace with Edward Armett shooting a lovely 98/292 followed closely by Lee Wilcoxson on a 98/290.

Although many tried, Edwards’s score held strong until the very last squad when late arrival Allen Warren posted a 99/292 Edward had returned and a shoot off was needed to decide the winner. After the first full round the tie still held with both shooting 24/72 so a further full round would be needed and right up until the 22nd shot they were still neck and neck but with this round being single barrel one escaped Edward and the round finished with Allen on 24/25 and Edward on 23/25, what an amazing fight from this young man who has just qualified to represent his country in the Down The Line England team.

So to the victor the spoils with Allen Warren overall Nottinghamshire high gun followed By Edward Armett in second place and Lee Wilcoxson claiming third.

Veterans was a close run event with Allen Warren taking Veteran High Gun leaving Gordon Hodgkinson And Russ Hufton in joint place for second and third place but unfortunately Russ had left therefore Gordon claimed second with Russ taking third place.

Followed by Olivia Stevens who not only took second in the juniors but was also Ladies Champion yet another of our young Nottinghamshire stars who has qualified for the England down the line team.

Crowned Colt champion was Joe Turner, this young man will make his mark in the shooting world and no doubt will be one of the best in the county in the near future.

It is great to see our young Nottinghamshire shooters excelling in the sport.
