Cornwall CPSA Committee

2025 AGM Minutes of meeting

 held 21st January 2026

at St Stephen Community Centre

In attendance: Ian Lobb, John Trevethan, Dave Johns, Nick Carey, Alison Morden-Hawke, Steve Tomlinson with 2 members and 1 ground owner.

Meeting started at 7.30pm

  1. Chair’s Address – The 2025 season has gone quickly. Thanks was given to all the grounds that participated in hosting our selections throughout the year in all disciplines. Many events received positive feedback from the participants.

Its another year were we have seen Cornish members showing the commitment to the sport travelling throughout the country to attend CPSA championships in various disciplines.

For various reasons we did not manage to have a development day this year but we hope to have one this year aimed at our youths and ladies which could be using a top-level female coach. If there are any businesses willing to sponsor please let us know.

We have had some achievements this year with Cornish shooters representing England. Richard Ryan and Gary Burton in the trap, and Junior Matthew Rowlan representing England in Italy. Bill Moussalli is in the England skeet team for the 12 consecutive time. Olympic skeet Denzil Grose continues to progress and is on the British shooting Olympic pathway which will hopefully see him competing in LA.

Thanks to the committee that served for 2025 and hopefully continue for 2026. Anyone who would like to join the committee let us know.

With the government announcement that they wish to change the licensing system for shotgun holders it is important for all shooting sports to join forces to prevent further restrictions on our pastimes. Please encourage all you know to join one of the governing bodies such as CPSA so we have strong representation to oppose such measures.

Good luck to all of you for the 2026 season.

  1.  2024 AGM Minutes – were available on Committee webpage and were accepted as a true record.

  1. Treasurers Report – copies of the accounts were available on committee webpage and copies were handed out to those who attended. Overall we were slightly down on last years amount but we had purchased shirts and cloth badges during the year so we had a healthy stock to sell.

  1. SW Rep’s report – There has been a push this year through the committee to have more events in the Somerset area and for IC and SW championship events to be combined. The meeting agreed that some disciplines it would be better to combine these but there are some disciplines which cannot due to the numbers who shoot it.

£20 prize had been proposed to not be paid but we and other counties had pressed for this to remain.

SW AGM is to be held at Two Counties on the 26th February at 7.30 as many people as possible were urged to attend in person to make sure Cornwall’s voice is heard. Last year the chair was elected incorrectly and Richard Chapple then had to take over.

This year there is going to be a test of doing OT as IC and SW championship.

Everyone need to email MPs to raise concern about the change of legislation.

  1. Secretary’s report

We held 6 committee meetings during 2025 all of which were in person. These were held here in St Stephen and the club have been accommodating as always.

The committee of 7 members ensured every meeting being quorate.

Thank you to my fellow committee members for their work and support during the year.  We have used Whatsapp between meetings and this has helped us keep in touch.

Thanks also to Pete Mylam not only for still sharing his shooting calendar with us all but also assisting with the spreadsheets we use to keep a track of selection scores. He refuses to join the committee but I am very grateful for his support.

The main requirement of a county committee is to organise Selection shoots

I wish to thank the grounds who hosted our selection shoots and championships during the year. We had 5 selections for sporting, 3 for skeet and sportrap, and 1 each for all round and super sporting. I will come back to the trap disciplines in a moment.

We still have limited grounds willing to host Sportrap and super sporting, we have also in the past had complaints about holding selections out of the county. Feedback from skeet shooters last year was that they wanted to revert to the 5 selections. We still have no grounds willing to host FITASC and only one person contacted us last year to express an interest in shooting in a county team. We have therefore taken the view not to pursue that discipline for the current time.

I want to thank the volunteer referees without whom we would not be able to hold our championships or some of our selections. Having volunteers also ensures that the cost for shooters taking part is not prohibitive.

Cornish teams last year took part in all South West competitions except Fitasc.

Unfortunately the National All Round was moved from Brook bank so we ended up not sending any teams to national competitions.

I thank all who competed for the county and travelled around the south west to do so.

We had 7 new caps again this year the same as last. These were Rob Dingle, Charlie Cotton, Dave Johns, Daniel Grose, Rich Tugwell, Colin Sibley and Jack Knowles. Its nice to see a few more juniors coming on.

We had 6 SW champions – Gary Marshall and Emily Morden-Hawke for sportrap, Colin Chidley as ABT vet, Aiden Scott Junior All round and Matt Rowland junior for UT and OT.

We won 6 IC trophies – Skeet Senior and vet teams, All round Senior, vet and junior teams, and Sportrap vets team.

Somerset won both the SW championship and IC trophy with Devon coming second.

Team Managers

John Trevethan and I from the committee were Team managers for the sporting disciplines between us.

Simon Ede continued to act as team manager for the Trap side although he does not wish to serve on the committee.  We continue to thank him for the assistance he gives.

I said I would come back to the selection of teams for the trap side. Last year the trap shooters wanted to apply to shoot for the county by submitting scores from 3 registered shoots and paying a levy. The conclusion having tried this is that it is even harder to get people to shoot for the county. For 2026 we are therefore reverting to selection shoots.

Development fund – I thank Dave Johns for his continued work on preparing for another development day and also to the input from Ian Lobb for the connections he has made whist travelling the country to shoot.

Presentation mementos

There is no presentation evening again this year.

We did consider whether there might be an alternative to the glasses but have not been able to find a cost effective one. Glasses will, as for previous years, be distributed to each champion.

Pull Magazine

Thank you to Ian Lobb for continuing to be our reporter for the Pull magazine.  Ian is also brilliant at finding items which are of interest to shooters throughout the year for me to share on facebook.

  1. 2026 Committee election

Re-elected the 2025 committee in same positions as before with the exception of Steve Moses who had tendered his resignation at the meeting. Thanks was expressed for Steve’s contribution to the work of the committee

  1. Discussion of proposals to increase the levy to £2 for all disciplines in order to pay for IC trophy engraving took place with the consensus being to engrave the IC trophies for the county when won. St Austell Cobblers may be able to offer a special deal for these and for any personal trophy winners. IL will speak to the owner and an announcement will be made.

  1. Any Questions from the floor

Combining IC and SW champs was supported for AR, ESK, and all Trap.

Suggestion of holding a ladies day for either ladies to have a go at shooting or for those who already shoot to hear about the CPSA competitions.

Supersporting only a final but suggestion made to look at combining with Devon to have the championship.

Champion of champions offer from Aiden Scott to shoot it as he will be attending the Game Fair if the county champion from last year is not willing to attend.

Meeting closed at 8.55pm
