NATIONAL INTER COUNTIES ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 21st/22nd OCTOBER 2017 – NCSC

The two day event was hampered by wind and rain, reflecting in the scores which only produced one 100 straight. H&W entered a Senior, Junior and Veterans team who competed on the Sunday. Despite the best efforts of storm Brian, the Junior team of Archie Parker-Smith 85 and Will Goodman 78 made a valliant effort, only just missing out on a medal, along with our Senior team Emma Parkinson 96, Roy Spooner 93, Matt Woodruffe 93, Luke Sanders 92 and John Smith 87. Although missing out on a Senior team medal, Emma, who narrowly missed a 97 with a dipping option bird on her last layout was titled National Lady High Gun. Tim Smith 97, Ian Parkinson 97 and Ian Currie 89, put in the winning Veteran team score of 194/200 with both Tim and Ian Parkinson making the shoot off for Veterans High Gun. Ian Parkinson was the eventual winner with 97+25+7 after sudden death pairs with Tim. (Ian Parkinson)

Full teams went to Doveridge Clay Sports on Sunday 17th September 2017 to shoot the IC Skeet.

The friendly banter and good humour was everywhere in the clubhouse before and after H&W had shot and it was lovely to see lots of faces we haven't seen for a while.  The first of our squads went out at 1 o'clock with Luke Sanders shooting an incredible 99ex100, which was a PB for him.  On the second squad at 1.20 Roy Spooner and John Smith both put in 98ex100 with Ian Parkinson on the third squad a 97ex100.  But the star of the show was Emma Parkinson shooting her first 100 straight, she was also High Gun winning the West Midlands Rose Bowl after a shoot off with Megan Jones from Warwickshire.  Very proud of everyone that shot as all of them were in brilliant form.  Our Veterans had to shoot off with Cheshire for the Gold as they both finished on the same score, Ian Parkinson and Ian Currie where the two nominated shooters from H&W for this and they did us proud taking the Inter County title for H&W. The results for H&W are Gold for Seniors, Gold for Veterans, Gold for Ladies and Bronze for Juniors.  A fabulous day and even better result for H&W.  Proud of you all.  My thanks to everyone for staying until the end, as it was a long day.  Great result.  Our thanks also to all the staff at Doveridge. This must have been the hottest day of the year so far with everyone feeling the heat.  Seven squads competed for this year's title with some very good scores coming in with a couple of new faces in the county, which we hope to see again.  The first squad went out at 10.30 with Simon Jones shooting an excellent 99 ex 100 which went on to win the County title.  Although coming late to the ground (a puncture on the way) it didn't stop Emma Parkinson putting in an excellent 97 ex 100, this gave her the runner up title, Ladies and Juniors titles as well.  Young Archie Parker-Smith won the Colts with 93 ex 100 but it needed a shoot off to secure the Veterans title with both Graeme Walker and Tim Smith both finishing on 96 ex 100.  In the shoot off Graeme shot 21 with Tim a 23, which gave Tim the title.  Our thanks to everyone that supported us again and to the members of Gloucester Clay Shooting Club for all their hard work.  Paul Tudge, Anthony Blandford, Martin Blandford, Jane and Donna.

WEST MIDLANDS INTER COUNTIES ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016

The West Midlands Inter County English Skeet Championships took place at Doveridge Clay Sports on Sunday 18th September.  The County put full teams in Seniors, Ladies, Juniors and Veterans.  The weather was beautiful, sunny, dry and warm.  Juniors won Gold 179ex200 just 1 clay ahead of second place Warwickshire.  The Ladies also won Gold 187ex200 which gave them an eight clay lead over second place Cheshire.  Seniors were joint 5th with Warwickshire 477ex100 with the Veterans 4th, 189ex200 just 3 clays behind bronze medal winners  Warwickshire.  Good scores were put in by everyone with Tim Smith top H&W member shooting 99ex100.  A mention for Danielle Brown who has only been shooting skeet for about 4 week prior to this championship as she normally shoots sporting.  A very good result for her.  I would hope we will see more of her in the future.  Thank you to everyone and to all family and friends that came to support us.  Thanks to all refs and to Doveridge for good targets and a well run shoot.  It was a fantastic day with good friendly banter (and insults) going on as usual.

H&W S/B, SKT DBLS & CPS CHAMPIONSHIPS – PARK FARM 17TH JULY 2016

H&W had a good turnout for these Championships and this year we had four Colts taking part. Unfortunately we only had one trophy available for the winner of the single barrel to take home but we have been promised trophies for the other disciplines. A very big thank you goes to Rod Davies and Kelly who worked their socks off in the office to get everyone on the appropriate layout and ready to shoot on time, especially as Rod had not done this before. We must not forget all the other people that made the day go smoothly so we must thank Luke, Glen, Rob, Amber and Diane and especially all the members that came to Park Farm to support H&W. As you will see from the scores it was a clash of the Smith's, which caused some amusement.

SINGLE BARREL DTL - Unfortunately this discipline clashed with a very big DTL competition in Ireland so quite a few of our DTL lads were not at Park Farm but even so there were quite a few members taking part. It was our top sporting member Phil Smith who took the trophy home with an excellent score of 48ex50. The runner up spot was a very close thing with the eventual winner John Smith, another sporting shooter, taking the honours on 43, third place on 42 was Roy Spooner. A young man who hasn't been shooting very long, Will Goodman, took the Colts title with an amazing 41. Junior champion with 40 was Brandon Smith and the Veteran title was jointly won by Andrew Foxall and Wes Harris on 40 with Sue Perry taking the Ladies title.

SKEET DOUBLES – It was Phil Smith and John Smith, both finishing on 46ex50 that led the way. A shoot off saw Phil take the county title with John runner up spot after a shoot off. Graeme Walker is Veterans champion on 45, Brandon Smith is Junior champion on 41, with Pat Smith taking the Ladies title. Another young man to watch out for in the future, who hasn't been shooting very long, is Archie Parker-Smith, he shot an amazing 44 to take the colts title.

COMPACT SPORTING – Yet another shoot off took place to decide the County Champion as Tim Smith and Phil Smith both finished on 47ex50. Tim won the shoot off with a 25 straight which happened to be the only one of the day. Taking third place and the Junior title was Brandon Smith on 45 (a brilliant all round shooter) with Wes Harris taking the Veterans title on 43. Hot on dad's heels was young Tom Harris taking the colts title with an exceptional 43, so watch out dad. Unfortunately we had no Ladies on this discipline. The committee have tried very hard for some time to attract Colts and Juniors to H&W competitions and with the help of Park Farm SG, only charging half price, we appear to be getting the message out there.

A Great day was had at Gloucester GC for the county English Skeet Championships.  There were a lot of good scores with a few sporting shooters taking part.  John Smith shot an excellent 98 ex 100 to take the County title. One target behind with another excellent score, was was Mike Bartlett on 97.  Matt Woodruffe was 3rd on 96 followed by Luke Sanders on 95.  Defending the title he won last year, Paul Colley took the Veterans title again with 95.  He was closeley followed by Graeme Walker, Brian Smith and Pat Smith on 94.  The Ladies title was decided by a shoot off between Emma Parkinson and Pat Smith after they both finished on 94, and it was Emma that took the Ladies title only missing 1 clay in the ensuing shoot off, as Pat went on to miss too many.  The Junior title went to Emma Parkinson on 94, her nearest opponent, Brandon Smith finished 2 clays behind on 92.  On his first registered competition it was Archie Parker-Smith that took the title with 74.  We hope to see more of him in the not too distant future.  Mike Parry, who hasn't shot clay's for a very long time won this trophy back in 1975 as a 17 year old.  Today he shot a 91 so it won't be too long before he's back to his winning ways.  Although there were one or two members that couldn't make it to Gloucester, we did have a very good attendance with 25 members hoping to win a trophy.  Gloucester take great care setting the targets correctly, which were first class and you sometimes wonder how on earth you miss so many.  My thanks go to Paul, Martin, Anthony, Jim and Graeme for looking after us and making sure the day ran smoothly.  Our thanks also go to all our members and  to Jane who fed and watered us all day.  (Pat Smith)

WEST MIDLANDS AREA ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016

There were 50 members from the Area to shoot this discipline at Doveridge on 8th May.  Winning the Ladies Gold,  Junior Gold, Bronze in Seniors and also winning ‘C’ class, Emma Parkinson from H&W shot an incredible 96ex100.  This is a wonderful result for H&W but most of all for Emma herself.  Very well done and good luck with all the other competitions you take part in.

WM INTER-COUNTIES ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

I would like to thank all the H&W team members that shot the WM IC for us at Doveridge Clay Sports Centre on Sunday 13th September 2015.  The day went reasonably well as, unfortunately there was a trap breakdown during the morning, which then delayed the squads.  The weather was good to us and a good camaraderie was had between everyone.   We had full teams of Seniors, Ladies, Juniors and Veterans.   The Junior team of Brandon Smith, Matt Dyson and Charles Lilwall took the Junior Gold medal.  The Ladies, Pat Smith and Jane Taylor won the Silver medal.  The Veterans , Graeme Walker, Paul Colley and Ian Currie came 6th which doesn’t reflect how well they shot as they were only 6 clays behind Gold medal winners Cheshire.  The Seniors, Mike Bartlett, Luke Sanders, Jason Taylor, Simon Jones and Roy Spooner came 7th.   I know most of us where disappointed with our scores as a lot of us were down on what we usually shoot.  My thanks to everyone at Doveridge.

Junior Gold Medal winners - Charles Lilwall, Brandon Smith and Matt Dyson

Ladies Silver Medal winners - Pat Smith and Jane Taylor

Veterans - Paul Colley, Ian Currie and Graeme Walker

H&W ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

We would like to thank all the members of Gloucester CSC for their help and support at the H&W County Skeet Championships held there on Sunday 26th April, especially as they were still there, clearing up, when we left the ground at around 6.15pm.  With 33 of our members attending, (this was very good for us), we had a good mix of seniors, Ladies, Veterans and juniors competing.  Although there was a very slight breeze blowing there was very little problem with the targets.   The first squad went out at 10.30am with Simon Jones shooting a very good score of 96ex100, (seems like he was on a high after the birth of his son only 3 days previously), which eventually won the championship.  Pat Smith was also on the first squad with a score of 91 and hoping to grab the trophy back she lost last year, unfortunately this wasn’t to be.  There were a few seniors hot on Simon’s tail, Nick Rees 94, Mike Bartlett, Jason Taylor, and Steve Badger on 93.   In the juniors and very close to Simon’s score was Brandon Smith with an excellent 95ex 100 which won him the juniors and also the runner up spot.  Jane Taylor retained the Ladies title with an excellent 94 followed by Pat Smith 91.  The Veterans title was won by Paul Colley with 93ex100 followed by Pat Smith 91. Thank you to all our members, new and old, who supported us.

HEREFORD & WORCESTER SKEET DOUBLES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2014

We would like to thank Gloucester Gun Club who held these County Championships for us again.  Weather wise it looked like we were in for a rainy day but after a bit of drizzle late morning it turned out a reasonable day with dry and humid conditions.  Ten H&W members shot this discipline on Sunday 13th July with a top score of 99 ex 100 coming from Phil Smith giving him the County Championship title.  There was no one else anywhere near him and second place was taken by Luke Sanders with 88 ex 100.  The Veterans title went to Anthony Blandford with 83 ex 100 and close behind with 82 ex 100 was Paul Colley.  Ladies Champion is Pat Smith with 75 ex 100 after a disastrous third round.  But the colt and junior there are learning very quickly with Jack Ruane taking the Colts title with 71 ex 100 and Andrew Stokes the Junior title with 68 ex 100.  In the classes Phil Smith won AA, Simon Jones won B and Luke Sanders won C.  Thank you to everyone that attended and especially to Anthony and Jane for all the help they gave us.

HEREFORD & WORCESTER COUNTY E/SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013

The Hereford & Worcester County English Skeet Championships took place in glorious sunshine with temperatures in the mid to high 20's at Gloucester GC on Sunday 7th July. We had a fantastic and fun day with twenty one (yes 21, I couldn't believe it either) H&W members taking part.   This is the same amount that shot the County Sporting a couple of weeks ago at Longridge.  Of the twenty one shooting there were seven veterans, two ladies and only one junior.  Up until the last squad Luke Sanders was in the lead with 96/100 when Phil Smith came through with 98/100, so Luke is runner up.  Wes Harris shot a 50 straight on the first layout but dropped five on the second layout, finishing in third place on 95/100.  Joint fourth place went to Roy Spooner and Jason Taylor both on 94/100.  The Veterans Champion is Anthony Blandford on 92/100 with Gerald Kings and Steve Elvins very close on 90/100.  The Ladies event was even closer with Pat Smith just taking the title on 80/100 with Jane Taylor closing in on 79/100.  The Junior Champion, shooting his very first registered event, is David Lloyd finishing on 61/100.  We would like to thank all the H&W members for supporting the County and also to Gloucester GC for helping us out with this competition, especially Jim Payne, Paul and Andrew Tudge, Graeme Walker, Martin Blandford and Anthony Blandford.  Thanks for the levies.   A big thank you goes to Jane as she kept us fed and watered throughout the day with the ice creams coming out towards the end of the day, lovely!! (Nice shirt Rod) The full score list has been entered after the two photos.

H&W ENGLISH SKEET COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

Although the weather stayed dry, the winds were gusting so hard at times that it was impossible to tell when and where the clays were going to fly for this Championship.  I would like to thank the eight H&W members that travelled to Gloucester GC on Sunday 30th September to shoot this discipline.  This year’s County Champion is Roy Spooner shooting a very good 94/100 despite the weather conditions.  Joint runners up on 87 are Simon Jones and Wes Harris.  Veteran Champion is Graham Walker on 85.  He re-joined the CPSA this year after a long absence and was nice to see him back.  Ron Braithwaite was one clay behind Graham on 84.  Ladies Champion is Pat Smith on 82.  Out of the twenty or so shooters there only three managed to get into the ninety’s and the day’s  High Gun with 95 was Phil Kitson from Staffordshire.  We are always made welcome at Gloucester and today was no exception.  Thanks to Andy Wills, Paul Tudge and Andrew Tudge for a really good day, and for the levies.

This years WM I/C Skeet was held at Doveridge Clay Sports on Sunday 16th September and I would like to thank everyone that took part in this event.  The teams shot at 1.20 and 1.40 and although it looked like we were going to get wet the rain held off.  We didn't manage any of the medal placings but I think everyone enjoyed themselves even though some of us didn't shoot as well as we would have liked.  The High Gun for H&W was Simon Jones shooting a very creditable 98/100 with Roy Spooner not far away with 96.  My thanks to everyone at Doveridge for organising this event.  My thanks also to Sally Preston for a wonderful array of photographs she took.

HEREFORD & WORCESTER SKEET DOUBLES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

The weather was warm and sunny for our county championships at Gloucester Gun Club on Sunday 26th August 2012.  We would like to thank everyone at the gun club (Martin, Graham, Jim and Anthony) for making us welcome and looking after us.  As always with Gloucester the targets were spot on, its a shame some of us couldn't connect with more than we did.  Although he hasn't shot as regular as he could have recently, Simon Jones just managed to hold on to the title.

1st - County Champion Simon Jones 86/100

Joint 2nd Roy Spooner 83/100

Joint 2nd and Veterans Champion Anthony Blandford 83/100

4th Pat Smith - 74/100 Ladies Champion

HEREFORD & WORCESTER ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

We would like to thank Gloucester Gun Club for holding the H&W county championships this year.  Thirteen county members turned out for us with a mixture of sporting and trap shooters.  Weather stayed dry for most of the day but a shower of rain towards lunch time dampened proceedings, but with the wind blowing briskley it sooned passed over.  After squad one had finished we had a feeling who this years county champion was going to be, only missing one target out of 100 Phil Smith is this years county champion.  A surprise in second place (for me anyway as he doesn't shoot as much as he used to) is Simon Jones with a very impressive 95/100.  We have two seniors taking joint third place on 94, from Worcestershire Roy Spooner and from Herefordshire Mick Jones, with Mick also winning the veterans title.  Ladies champion is Pat Smith on 89/100, with Harriet Archer taking juniors and Charlie Sadler taking Colts title with a very good 86.  Thanks to everyone for taking the trip to Gloucestershire and especially to all the team at GGC, Andrew, Paul, Martin and refs.

H&W  SKEET DOUBLES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

Riverside Shooting Ground, Bidford was the venue for the County Skeet Doubles Championship that took place on Saturday 16th July.  With nearly 200 members in the County it was very disapointing that only eight turned out to support us.  The first squad went out at 10am with heavy rain falling and a slight wind blowing.  By the time the second squad were ready the rain had stopped but the wind had increased and when the third squad went out, although it was still dry, the wind had increased greatly.  One of our top Sporting shooters was the eventual winner and County Champion.  Missing a high 7 and a high 5, Phil Smith finished with 48/50.  Second place and Veterans Champion is Brian Smith with 44/50.  In third place and Ladies Champion is Pat Smith on 42/50 with Charlie Sadler the Junior Champion.  Thank you to everyone that supported us and also to the Quelch family and everyone at Riverside for helping us out with this Competition.
