CPSA Instruction

Congratulations to the following Essex shooters who successfully completed the CPSA academy course in November for Instructor Level one:-

Adrian Tagg

Dave Bignell

Bob Cooper

Gary Shortenrule

Phil Moss - Pastures New

So farewell then … in a surprise move Phil Moss is to take charge of both the ground and target-setting at theManchester Clay Shooting Club (www.manchesterclayshooting.com).

David Lloyd has been making a significant investment in the shooting facilities at Manchester and Phil is joining him to develop ESP, STR and FITASC.

I’m sure many Essex guns will be making the trip north in 2012 to support this promising venture.

AGM

Don’t miss the shooting highlight of the year, the must-attend most important sporting event in the social calendar which is set to eclipse the Sports Personality of the year, the Olympic opening ceremony and the Oscars – yes it’s the Essex CPSA AGM where we will all meet up to discuss the shooting experience in Essex.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, we had not yet been able to confirm our booking but expect  it to be during the week beginning 6th Feb 2012 – please note and check the website in January for exact time and place.

Trap Grand Final – Mayland 29th & 30th October

Mayland is hosting its Grand Final of Trap shooting:-

Saturday:  DTL, Single Barrel & Double Rise ----- Sunday:  DTL & Double Rise.

There will be generous sponsorship from J & H Kitchens and Eastern Sporting and don’t forget the £1 Pot and £2 Race.

DTL GP – Southern Counties 17 & 18 September

Southern counties held their annual Grand Prix ...  blustery conditions ... not enough to stop Matthew Holley from shooting his first 100 straight.

ESK Home International – Morton Clay Targets 3rd September

Peter Stanton-Hope deserves a special mention as, having just qualified for the full England Skeet team for the first time, he managed a total of 148 ex 150 over the two days of the Home International championships in Scotland to win the highest new cap trophy and overall joint second place.

Peter also recorded a fine win in the Scottish Open championship, recording one of only four 100 straights together with another Essex gun, Ray Simmons, and then going on to win the shoot off from Peter Collins of Scotland.

Essex Side-by-Side Championship - 18th September

This event was organised by Mike Lankshear and the Champion on the day was Steve Miller.

Housham Hall Farm Charity Shoot – September 11th

Faces behind the scenes:-

Ray Franklin, Keith Masek, Kath & Mike Lankshear and Gerry Springham

A dry if blustery day greeted those who came to this shoot organised by Gerry Springham in aid of Matching Village Hall car park. There were many compliments over both the character of the setting and the quality of targets.

Robert Humphreys won the Cash Class with 74 ex 80, closely followed by Nigel Gilder on 73 and kevin Theobald, 69.

In the Cartridge Class Terry Harris was triumphant, closely followed by Andy Nixon, second and Dave Camp who was third.

Nadine Gilder took Ladies and James Garrod was top Junior.

A big thank you to all those who organised the shoot and of course to all those who shot it as well – events such as these truly bring shooting into the community.

FSP County Championship – Hepworth Hall 27/28th August

A blustery weekend of sunshine and showers ... Oliver Wilde shot a magnificent 92 to become Essex FITASC Sporting Champion.

Essex Sporting Challenge – Keeper’s Cottage 7th August

The County Sporting Challenge was held at Keeper’s Cottage near Little Burstead over 75 birds shot on 8 stands. Stuart Clarke won the day with 68.

ESP South East of England – Southdown 14th August

On a fine dry day Robert Humphreys defeated all-comers to take the South-East title with a magnificent 93.

ESK BO – NCSC 14th August

Congratulations to Ray Rogers winning B Class in the British Open after a shoot-off and also to Thomas Dixon who took C Class at Bisley.

Scott Greenfield - British Champion Sportrap 31st July at Doveridge

Once more Scott Greenfield has triumphed at national level taking the BO STR at Doveridge in July. On Saturday, Martin Myers and Ed Solomons had both scored magnificent 94s and looked scheduled for a Sunday shoot-off to decide the title when along came Scott Greenfield with a superlative 95 to snatch the title.

Also of note Scott and son Zak captured the Sportrap Parent and Child title to complete an exceptional day. Well done Scott who now adds another significant title to his previous victory in the British Open Sporting.

Chris Wright – England OT Team news

Chris Wright has once again qualified as a Senior in the England Olympic Trap Team for the Home International taking place in Wales 26th and 27th August 2011. Chris has a total of 10 England OT caps, 2 GB OT caps and 3 England Ball Trap caps.

Terling Open Shoot Results

The annual Terling shoot took place recently and here are some figures for the day. It is always a very well-attended event and this year saw 205 entries which were paid down to 6th place, a total payout of some £210. The Paul Juniper Memorial High Gun was Robert Humphreys with 39 ex 40. A total of £445 was raised for the British Heart Foundation and £350 was donated to Terling Village Chidrens' Playgroup.

Sporting Selection Changes

At their recent committee meeting, Essex CPSA have decided to change the rules for ESP selection in 2012.

Sporting Young Shots – Fennes Shooting School

Essex CPSA is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a “Young Shots” day on August 10th at the Fennes, Braintree(www.fennesclays.co.uk). The day is designed to attract novices, under 16 years of age, who have either just begun shooting or perhaps recently acquired their first gun. Full instruction will be offered please contact Tracey Riddington 01376 324 599.

Jerry Bland - FSP European Championships at Castillejo de Robledo, Soria.

Congratulations to Jerry Bland who won Team Silver when he represented the Great Britain FITASC Team in the European Championships in Spain recently. Jerry has previously represented Great Britain and England in both Sporting and FITASC in the Super-Vets category, winning Gold and Silver medals.

The Best Things Come in Threes? - Fire Service Championship.

On 16th March the National Fire Service Championships were held at Doveridge which consisted in 50 Sporting, 25 Skeet and 25 A.B.T. Three shooters stood out from the rest all taking different routes to arrive at exactly the same result of 83 ex 100. After a shoot-off, Mike Pilgrim retained the title with Don Cooper 2nd and Richard Baker 3rd. All three represent the Essex County Fire Service and one further coincidence is that all three are also members of the same shooting club - Bush Spring near Elsenham. The Veteran title was taken by Dave Mayes, also of the Essex Fire Service.
