Essex Sporting Championships At Hepworth Hall
This year’s Sporting Championship returned to Hepworth Hall again. For the 15th time Stuart Clarke won and this time with a Zoli over and under. Stuart had, had recoil problems with over and under’s for 13 years. He shot 92 to win the title. The Essex Lady was Tracey Riddington who shot an 80 and the Junior was Jack Greenleaf who shot an 88. Unfortunately i didn’t find out who the Vet was so apologies.

Essex Fitasc Championships At Hepworth Hall
The Championships were held at Hepworth Hall. It was a very, very cold day with strong winds which made it seem even colder. The scores were not entirely high but were reasonable considering the weather conditions. Luke Riddington was the County Champion and also the Veteran Champion. He finished with an 81, while Tracey Riddington his Wife shot a 65 and took the Ladies title. Frank Haigh took the Super Vets title and finished up with a 78. Daniel Fenner took the Colt’s title and Josh Hayday took the Junior title. Daniel shot a 49 and Josh shot a 53. Well done to all winners.

National Inter-Counties Skeet At Nottingham
The National Inter-Counties this year were held at Nottingham Gun and District Gun Club. The weather affected the scores somewhat due to high winds. Shaun Pipe led the Senior Team with a decent 96, shortly followed by Darren Sweeney who finished with a 94. The Senior Team came joint 8th place overall, tying with Cambridgeshire. The highest Essex Veteran was Malcolm Clarke with a 93, and Pam Dorrington was the highest Lady with an 87. Michael Clarke was the highest Essex Junior with an 84 and Ollie Pipe was the highest Colt and also took the overall title with a 91. The Essex Skeet Team would also like to thank London Iron who kindly sponsored the Team shirts.

British Open 2013 – Hepworth Hall
This year the British Open came to Essex. Yet again we saw John Dyson and his team put on an excellent and smooth running shoot. There were many challenging targets over 15 stands one being a close rabbit, of which I heard many shooters struggled with. The British Open saw Mark Winser leading the sporting until the last day where Sam Green levelled with him on 111. After a tense shoot off, Sam came out on top missing only 1 clay in the shoot off. I would like to say a very well done to Sam and also well done for John and his team for putting on another excellent shoot. I am sure after the British Open everyone is looking forward now to the Masters next year.

Sportrap County Championship – Clacton Gun Club – 7th September 2013
Clacton Gun Club held the Sportrap Championships this year. The weather was good although there was strong wind at times. The overall Champion was Oliver Wilde who ended up with an 89. Dave Bignell and A Tagg both shot an 83 and so had to shoot off for the Veterans title of which A Tagg won. I won Ladies with an 84, Jack Greenleaf won Juniors on an 83 and Daniel Fenner was the Colt Champion and finished up with a 69.
===================================================================================================
Essex Skeet Doubles Championship – Clacton Gun Club – 21st September 2013
At this year’s skeet doubles, the weather was pretty grey to start with but then later on the wind increased but this didn’t stop many shooters still bringing back a great score. M Worsfold put in an early 94 and not long afterwards Jack Greenleaf put in a final score of 90, which was also the winning score for the Junior title. Sean Pipe shot an excellent 97, but late in the day Vic Bradley turned up and shot an also excellent 98 and was the overall Champion and also the Veterans Champion. Diane Boutcher, after a tricky start pulled it back and finished up on a 90 retaining the Ladies title after slipping just in front of Pam Dorrington who has shot an 89 early on in the day.
===================================================================================================
South East Inter-Counties Skeet – NCBC Bisley – 8th September 2013
This year’s SE Inter-Counties saw a lot of different scores from Essex shooters as they had to tackle blustery winds and also stormy conditions at times. Shaun Pipe shot a 96 overall but with the help from his team, Robert Humphreys, Peter Stanton-Hope and Alex Garcia they ended up with a 479 which did lead for a long time until Oxford drew and Kent ended up with a 481. The Essex Colt Ollie Pipe came first after shooting a 90 and drawing with Kent’s Jack Goodhew but he held his nerve and he then went on to shoot a 25 straight in the shoot off. Essex Lady Diana Boutcher came second, Veteran Bryan Farr came fourth and Junior Tia Ayres was third. All of those who shot for Essex for the first time really enjoyed themselves and the experience.

Essex English Skeet Championship
Clacton Gun Club
29th June 2013
Summer seemed to finally arrive just in time for the Essex English Skeet Championship as the whole day was fine and warm throughout, giving pretty ideal conditions for the forty-odd guns that turned up to Clacton Gun Club hoping to take the title or, at least, a class win.
A Goodchild set an early pace with a 96 which ultimately gave him the Veterans title and a Class A win shared with Alex Garcia and G Spolding. In the same squad Peter Stanton-Hope finished with a 97 which led in the clubhouse until the ultimate winner, Robert Humphreys, shot an almost perfect 99 to take class AA and the title. In the next squad out Ray Rogers finished his round only one shot behind in runners-up spot. Shortly afterwards, Shaun Pipe returned with 97 to take the class B win and the Steve Todd trophy for class B & C competitors.
Shaun’s son, Ollie completed a round of 89 to take the colts win, and Tia Ayres shot a 90 to win Juniors. Pam Dorrington and Linda Leeder (pictured) completed their rounds tied on 92, including Linda’s first ever competitive straight in her final round. Pam won the shoot off late in the afternoon to take the Ladies title.
Thanks as always to Andy Riva and his team at Clacton for providing us with a friendly welcome, good targets and fine catering. A special thanks to the referees who worked all day in the hot conditions.

Congratulations
So far this year, Frank Haigh has already had an excellent year. On the 9th June he qualified at Barbury Shooting Ground to shoot for the Great Britain FITASC Compak Sports Super Vets Team. A week later on the 15th and 16th he then shot the FITASC British Grand Prix Selection Shoot at Westfield.
He made the Great Britain FITASC Sporting Super Vets Team for the World Fitasc Championship which will take place on the 11th-14th July and so hopefully I will be give you an update next month on Frank’s progress.
Lastly, Frank has just returned from Italy after competing in the European Compak Sporting Championship which was the 20th-24th June. He shot against 32 other European Super Vet teams and came out on top and won the Gold Medal. The Britain team consisted of Frank, John Bidwell and Trevor Stanton. This was the 19th European Compak Championship and it was the first time that Great Britain had competed in this discipline so I would like to say a big Congratulations to him.

Essex County Championships for Olympic Skeet was held at Southend Gun Club on 19th May.
A fine sunny day with little wind made an enjoyable days shooting, but where have all the Essex shooters gone.
Father and Daughter took the honours this year
Champion; Robert Humphreys 86/100
Lady; Vicky Humphreys 74/100
Veteran; Andrew Bond 83/100

Just to let everybody know Terling open shoot is being held on the 30th June 2013 this year.

Richard Ford Memorial Shoot - 8th June
46 shooters attended the Richard Ford memorial shoot at Parkford on Saturday 8th June. The day stayed dry although it was cold and windy for June but this did nothing to diminish the atmosphere. There was a good selection of both Richard's family and friends and skeet shooters and the scores reflected this, but a good time was had by all.
There was a lovely free buffet provided by David and Trisha and a very well sponsored raffle which raised over £550 for the Macmillan nurses.
The overall winner, and the first recipient of the new Richard Ford memorial cup was Peter Stanton-Hope who scored an excellent 97 considering the weather conditions.
Thank you to everyone who's hard work made the day such a success and the generous raffle sponsors.

Richard Ford Memorial Shoot - Parkford Shooting Ground - 8th June

ATTENTION ALL SKEET SHOOTERS - Selection Shoot Venue Vote
There was high attendance and some good scores put in at this years selection shoots which were all held at Parkford but there were some complaints about aspects of the ground and so the committee has decided to put next years venue to a vote. This will be subject to the grounds being in agreement but four options have been proposed.
Option | Description | Your Preference in order 1 to 4 |
1 | 3 shoots at Parkford in St Osyth as in 2013
2 | 3 shoots at Dartford as in 2012 and previous years
3 | 2 shoots at Parkford and 2 at Dartford
4 | 1 shoot at each of Parkford, Clacton and Dartford |
For all options, the top 2 scores would count towards selection.
If you have not received an email with regards to this already from Richard Boutcher and are an active skeet shooter within the county and have done as least 3 registered shoots in the last 12 months to the end of March 2013, please send him an email with your selection, along with your name and CPSA number. 1 being your first option and 4 being your last option.
Richard's email address is richard.boutcher@hotmail.co.uk
Voting will close for this on 12th May so make sure your vote counts.

Essex Gun Master – Hepworth Hall 10/04/2013 – 14/04/2013
The time of year came round again for the Essex Gun Masters at Hepworth Hall. The event seems to come up fast every year. Yet again John Dyson put on some excellent targets with his classic high tower stand which I am sure got the better of a lot of people. The week seemed to run very smoothly with the help of all of the people there. Unfortunately on a few occasions the weather may have got the better of some shooters with very heavy rain and strong winds but putting that aside it is always a great week to get involved in and always well worth the money to shoot it. This year there was even a couple of Essex shooters that won a gun as well which makes things even better. The British Open is being held at Hepworth Hall this year also, so it would be a great opportunity for as many Essex shooters to get involved as it’s not often a big event comes to Essex. To view the top scores of the week please click here.

Sporting Selection Shoot – Cambridge 31/03/2013
Cambridge held the 4th and final Essex selection shoot. This seemed to be a little more testing for many people. The winds did pick up quite a bit and there and there was even a few snow showers and sunny spells. The highest Essex shooter this time being Nigel Gilder with an 84. To see the full scores from this event please click here. And to see the completed selection table after all 4 selection shoots please click here.

Sporting Selection Shoot – Barrow Heath 29/03/2013
Barrow Heath held the 3rd sporting selection shoot on Good Friday this year. The weather wasn’t too bad with little wind and occasional sunny periods. There was many high scores but Scott Greenfield was the highest Essex shooter with an impressive 96, strongly holding him in first place in the Essex selection table. Helena Romanes Secondary School take victory at The National Schools Challenge
Last month Kevin reported on the coaching appeal with regards to Helena Romanes School in Great Dunmow. I am pleased to report that 10 boys from the school recently attended the National Schools Challenge and actually returned home with the winning prize of a 410 shotgun and a trophy. They entered 2 teams and even the second came third considering this was the first time that most of the boys had ever shot a competition they did an excellent job, especially being one of the only Comprehensive schools competing.

Peter Stanton-Hope Retains Winter Title
Essex skeet shooter, Peter Stanton-Hope, has retained his title as Winter Series Champion at Bisley. This year’s series was based on the best 3 out of 4 scores and Peter shot a 97, a 98 and a final round 99 on Sunday the 17th March, giving him a total of 294. This was one point above Tim Connolly on 293, with Allen Warren third on 292.

ESP Selection Shoots - correction
The latest version of PULL and the main CPSA website incorrectly state that there is to be a selection shoot at Barrow Heath this Sunday.
Whilst there is a registered shoot to be held at Barrow Heath it is not an Essex selection shoot. The 2nd selection shoot will take place at Southdown this Sunday March 3rd.
For details of the remaining selection shoots please visit our fixtures page here.
ESP County Selection 1 of 4 - Barrow Heath 17th Feb 2013
A very stiff test awaited Essex hopefuls at Barrow heath on a fine sunny day with little wind.
For more details of this event please click here.
For details of the next three selection shoots please visit the fixtures page here.
AGM 2013 - The Fennes 6th February 2013
The Annual General Meeting of the Essex CPSA took place once again in the splendid surroundings of the Fennes where members gathered to exchange views over dinner and drinks.
This year we had the pleasure of the company of John Offord (CPSA Director for the South-East) and Johnny Johnson (CPSA South-East Region Chairman); both gentlemen offered the audience a perspective of shooting from national and regional points of view to add colour to the evening.
Special guest star in attendance was Phil Moss, previously Essex CPSA Chairman, who now runs Barrow Heath shooting ground; Barrow heath has a long history of supporting the Essex CPSA by hosting Sporting selection shoots on its magnificent rolling hills and woodland - in 2013 they will host two such events. For dates please see the 2013 calendar.
We were saddened to discover that Tracey Riddington and Paul Buckley had elected to step down from the committee this year and we thanked them for their past contributions; we were delighted that in 2013 so many had volunteered to join, namely Asif Mitha, Darren Sweeney, Nadine Gilder & Scott Greenfield. During the previous year two other new members - Terry Harris & Dave Bignell also accepted the chains of office so we find the Essex CPSA in good hands (and many of them).
A full report with provisional minutes will soon appear on this site.
Essex Club Championship - Arnold's Farm 27th May 2013
Once again the ‘Essex Club Championship’ is to be held on the Spring Bank Holiday.
The event is designed strictly for CPSA affiliated clubs however there will also be an ‘Essex Team Competition’ for those who do not belong to a formal club but still wish to shoot competitively.
For full details and entry instructions please click here.
Skeet is coming home…
Whilst we have enjoyed very good support from Dartford over the years, in 2013 Skeet is coming home to Essex as the selection shoots are being held at Parkford Shooting Centre near Saint Osyth; the County Championship will remain at Clacton Gun Club so that the whole skeet championship process will now take place in Essex.
Peter Stanton-Hope and Alex Garcia are behind the move to restore Skeet shooting to Essex and Peter will be taking entries for the selection shoots directly on 07901 655493 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 07901 655493 FREE end_of_the_skype_highlighting.

Sporting Selection Shoots
If you would like to represent Essex at the South-East and National Intercounty competitions you will have to qualify via the Selection shoots we hold each year. These are normal registered shoots except that your score is also recorded onto a selection table and the best scores then count towards team selection.
Teams are made up as follows:-
South-East Intercounties: 5 Seniors, 1 Lady, 1 Veteran, 1 Junior, 1 Colt.
National Intercounties: 6 Seniors (5 to count), 3 Ladies (2 to count), 3 Vets (2 to count), 3 Juniors (2 to count).
Once again the S/E Intercounties are to be held at Southdown on 20/21 April and the National Intercounties this year will take place at Kegworth on 05/06 October. As the S/E event is early again this year and bearing in mind other key events, we have had to squeeze the selection shoots into a fairly short time window.
Barrow Heath 17th Feb - now under the management of Phil Moss, the ground goes from strength to strength offering great target variety over a magnificent rolling landscape.
Southdown 3rd March - always a pleasure to visit Southdown and ideal practice as it will be the venue for the S/E Intercounties. For directions please visit their website.
Barrow Heath 29th March - another chance to secure a place, this time on Good Friday, Easter weekend.
Cambridge 31st March - a new venue for selection which already attracts a number of Essex shots. Mick & Karen have invested heavily in ground and facility improvements and in 2013 will be hosting the East Midlands Intercounties. Events here are squadded/telephone entries please to Karen 07825 267 792 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 07825 267 792 FREE end_of_the_skype_highlighting, book early to avoid disappointment. For directions please visit their website.
This year you can perm any 2 from 4 scores to count towards selection - the results will be regularly updated on this site.
For a fill listing of events in 2013 please visit our fixtures page here.
Barrow Heath Cancelled - Sunday 20th January 2013
Please note that this shoot is cancelled due to severe weather conditions and forecast.
ESSEX CPSA – AGM
The Fennes – Wed 6th Feb at 20:00
It’s that time of year again and we’re pleased to announce that the Essex CPSA AGM will once again be held at the Fennes (details below).
Whether you compete for county trophies, represent an Essex team or just plain shoot in Essex you'll be most welcome - don't forget there will be complimentary drinks and a buffet.
Have you considered joining the Essex committee? The pay's not great but you will only be asked to attend for 3 or 4 evenings during the course of the year. You don't need to be a county champ just enthusiastic about what goes on in your own county. It maybe that you have other complimentary interests for example in IT or photography and these too would be most welcome. Please contact a committee member either now or at the AGM.

Coaching Appeal - Helena Romanes School, young shots club
Helena Romanes is an Academy school based in Great Dunmow which offers secondary education to 11-18 year olds.
Neal Wilcox has founded a shooting club within the school and conducts regular coaching sessions with his pupils.
As a result of the success of the shooting club and its growing numbers they are now looking for help with coaching sessions; typically this would involve spending one morning a month sharing your knowledge with youngsters at somewhere like the Fennes.
Naturally the position would suit a qualified coach but they will also consider experienced shots with a patient attitude and the ability to inject enthusiasm for shooting sports. Of course the club is run entirely on a voluntary basis and so there is no pay as such other than the recompense of knowing that you will have made a lasting contribution to the sporting lives of the young in Essex.
Please apply in the first instance to essexcpsa@gmail.com - if you would like any further information don't hesitate to ask.
