The Essex Olympic Trap Championship was held at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground on Sunday 25th February 2024. This was held in conjunction with the Cambs, Herts and Gtr. London County Championships, resulting in a large turnout.

Ian Lockwood emerged the Essex Champion on 79, whilst Peter Lunn scored 78 to take the Veteran trophy. Emma Ralph took the Ladies trophy with 73 and Eddie Lockwood scored 65 to win the Junior trophy.

Thanks are due to Nicky & Ed Barker of Nuthampstead Shooting Ground for staging this event on their superb Trap layouts.

Olympic Trap County Championship

Nuthampstead - Sunday 26th February 2023

Freezing cold conditions and strong Northerly winds greeted the shooters on Saturday 26th Feb for the Essex County OT championships at Nuthampstead shooting ground. The cold, wind and ever-changing light made for a challenging day shooting. After four very cold rounds Chris Banks emerged as the Essex High Gun with Dave Izzard taking home the Veteran trophy and Eddie Lockwood shooting OT for the first time winning Juniors. Special thanks go to Ed and Nicky at Nuthampstead shooting ground for putting on such a well run event.

Olympic Trap County Championship

Nuthampstead Shooting Ground - Sunday 27th February 2022

This was held in conjunction with the Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Olympic Trap Championships and had a good turnout.

Conditions were cold & breezy but with blue skies and unbroken sunshine. This not only made for a pleasant day, but also gave good visibility to the fast Olympic Trap targets.

The overall Essex Champion for the second year running, with a score of 84 was John Haas. The Veteran Trophy was taken by David Henshaw on 79, also for the second year running.

Many thanks to Ed & Nicky Barker of Nuthampstead Shooting Ground, for once again staging a faultless competition on their superb Trap layouts.

South East Region Olympic Trap Intercounties

Bisley - Sunday 25th July 2021

The South East Region Olympic Trap Intercounties Championship was held as NCSC Bisley on Sunday 25th July 2021.

As competitors from the ten counties gathered for the competition so did the storm clouds. Fortunately the threatened downpour never materialised although the poor light conditions made the fast targets very difficult to pick up.

The Essex County Team of Chris Wright, John Haas, Christopher Banks, Jay Hudson and Tyler Minter emerged the winners with a score of 371 ex 500 narrowly beating Berkshire by 2 targets.

Below shows the victorious Essex Team with their badges and trophy.

Essex Olympic Trap County Championship

Nuthampstead - Sunday 25th April 2021

The Essex Olympic Trap Championship was held at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground on Sunday 25th April 2021.

This was held in conjunction with the Cambridgeshire Olympic Trap Championship.

The conditions were a bit tricky as there was a cold wind crossing the ranges from right to left. Olympic Trap targets are by their nature very fast and wind tends not to affect them too much during early flight. However, the unwary may struggle in such conditions if their timing isn't spot-on, as plenty of competitors found to their cost.

The overall Essex Champion with a score of 83 was John Haas. The Veteran Trophy was taken by David Henshaw with 79. The Ladies Trophy went to Emma Ralph on 71.

With twelve six-person squads shooting on the day, Ed & Nicky Barker of Nuthampstead Shooting Ground must be congratulated for staging another faultless competition on their superb Trap layouts.

Olympic Trap County Championships

Nuthampstead - Sunday 23rd February 2020

The Essex Olympic Trap Championship was held at Nuthampstead on 23rd February 2020.

Champion - J Hudson - 82 (after shoot off)

Veteran/Super Veteran - D Henshaw - 82

Ladies - P Dorrington - 64

Juniors - C Thompson - 78

The Essex Olympic Trap Championship was held at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground on Sunday 23rd February 2020. The event was held in conjunction with the Hertfordshire OT Championship.

The weather looked set to be a repeat of the gales endured during the recent Essex ABT Championship. However there was a slight difference this time, as it was freezing cold as well, and the sudden downpour of rain instantly soaked anyone caught out in it.

D.Henshaw and J.Hudson equalled on 82 which called for a sudden-death shoot-off. D.Henshaw was first to shoot and missed his target. J.Hudson managed to hit his, and therefore took the Champion's Trophy. David Henshaw was not left empty handed, as he now took the Vet's Trophy.

Pam Dorrington won the Ladies Trophy with 64, whilst Callum Thompson took the Junior's Trophy with 78.

Thanks are due once again to Nicky & Ed Barker for another faultlessly run competition on their excellent layouts.

The Champion was David Izzard with a score of 87, whilst the Veterans Trophy went to Chris Wright with an 85. The Lady's Trophy was won by Emma Ralph with an 82 and the Junior Trophy was taken by Callum Thompson with 70.

The Champion was David Izzard with a score of 80, whilst the Veterans Trophy went to David Henshaw with a 73. The Junior Trophy was taken by Callum Thompson with 64.

Once again Nicky & Ed Barker put on a great shoot, with thanks also due to Anita North and Callum Thompson's mum for helping out on the ranges.
