Skeet Doubles County Championship - Clacton 7th September 2019
A mild, late summer's day greeted only 13 competitors to the Clacton Gun Club for the county's 2019 Skeet Doubles Championship. Unfortunately, the entries were hit by a clash with a 400-bird Iron Man skeet competition on the same day.
Dave Billington, shooting in the last squad of the day shot 93 to rake the overall title. Katie Durrant's 84 was enough to win her the ladies trophy with Gary Bridger winning the vets and George Billington taking the colts title. These are shown receiving their trophies and badges from Dave Bignell in the photos below.
Skeet Doubles County Championship - Clacton 15th September 2018
A beautiful, warm, late summer's day greeted the 26 competitors to the Clacton Gun Club for the county's 2018 Skeet Doubles Championship. The wind rose later in the day making some targets a little challenging for the later squads. Shooting in the first squad out, Alex Garcia set a hard-to-beat target of 98.
Dave Hendon managed to equal that total in the second squad but no-one else equalled or bettered that score all day so the championship was decided on a shoot out. Both straighted the full round, but Dave was then the first to drop a clay in a sudden-death shoot-off to give Alex the overall title. Dave had the consolation of winning the Tim Convoy title for class B and C competitors.
Other champions on the day were Peter Stanton-Hope (Vets) with 94, Gill Billington (Ladies) also on 94, Katy Durrant (Junior) with a 90, and Mason Terry (Colt) on 81. Congratulations to all of them and thanks very much as always to Andy Riva and the team at Clacton Gun Club for organising the event.

Skeet Doubles County Championship - Clacton 16th September 2017
Clacton Gun Club was again the venue for the county's 2017 Skeet Doubles Championship. The weather was mainly overcast but dry for the competitors, although those in the later squads of the day faced increased and gusty winds making some of the targets more challenging than they would normally be.
Glen Defreitas set the early pace, leading off for squad one, although his score always looked vulnerable. Tia Ayres shot in the same squad and then ha da long wait to find that her total was good enough at the end of the day to take the Ladies' championship. In the middle of the day, Paul Terry just pipped Glen to take the lead. Shooting alongside him, his son Mason Terry shot an excellent 88 to win the Colt's title. This squad also included the ultimate veteran's title winner, Ray Simmons.
Unfortunately for Paul, shooting in the last squad of the day, Dave Billington confirmed his return to form with an excellent 95 in the worst of the day's conditions to take the title. This left Paul Terry as the Tim Convoy Trophy winner for classes B and C so he did not go home empty-handed. J Deegan was the Junior title winner.
Thanks as always to Andy Riva and his team at Clacton for hosting this event, much enjoyed by those who shot it.

Skeet Doubles County Championship - Clacton 19th September 2016
Clacton Gun Club was the venue for the 2016 Essex Skeet Doubles Championship held on Saturday the 17th September, on the day after the late summer heatwave broke, leading to overcast skies and strong winds making conditions somewhat tricky for some of the competitors.
Peter Stanton-Hope was the lead shooter on the first squad out, setting the pace with a 95. This lead the field until Chris Rose came in with a score of 96 from the last position of the last squad of the day to snatch the title at the last minute, leaving Peter as the veterans champion. Diane Boutcher just pipped Judy Lock to the Ladies title. Sadly there were no junior or colts entries.
Oliver Wilde won the Time Convoy trophy for the highest class B or C shooter on countback from Lee Thompson.

Skeet Doubles County Championship - Clacton 19th September 2015
Clacton Gun Club was the venue for the 2015 Essex Skeet Doubles Championship. The late summer weather was kind to the competitors, providing a warm and fairly still day resulting in consistent birds. P Brewster shot an excellent 98 in one of the first squads to shoot and this score was not bettered through the rest of thay. However, Rob Nash came very close with a 97 after having dropped three birds in his first round. As well as giving him the runners-up position this also won him the Tim Convoy trophy for class B & C shooters. Graham Gooday's 94 won him the vets title and Diane Boutcher's 93 took the ladies championship. Thanks to Andy Riva and his team at Clacton for laying on the day.

2014 Essex Skeet Doubles Championship
A day of mixed weather greeted competitors for the Essex Skeet Doubles Championship on Saturday the 20th September at the Clacton Gun Club. The early squads suffered some serious rainfall and, whilst it dried up for the later competitors, the wind got up to make for some tricky birds. Despite this, there were some good scores posted, including an early 95 by Bob English. Shortly afterwards, Robert Humphreys matched this score and the two held onto their joint lead despite a late run by Malcolm Clarke who looked like joining them until he dropped his third-to-last bird for a 94.
In the late afternoon Robert and Bob prepared for the shoot-off with a small crowd watching on. Unfortunately for Bob it didn’t last very long as he missed out on the second pair leaving Robert to take the title.
Bob took scant consolation from taking the vets title and the Tim Convoy trophy for the best B or C class competitor. Tia Ayres took the Ladies title and the Juniors. Unfortunately there were no colts entries this year.

Essex Skeet Doubles Championship – Clacton Gun Club – 21st September 2013
At this year’s skeet doubles, the weather was pretty grey to start with but then later on the wind increased but this didn’t stop many shooters still bringing back a great score. M Worsfold put in an early 94 and not long afterwards Jack Greenleaf put in a final score of 90, which was also the winning score for the Junior title. Sean Pipe shot an excellent 97, but late in the day Vic Bradley turned up and shot an also excellent 98 and was the overall Champion and also the Veterans Champion. Diane Boutcher, after a tricky start pulled it back and finished up on a 90 retaining the Ladies title after slipping just in front of Pam Dorrington who has shot an 89 early on in the day.

Bob English
The 2012 Essex Skeet Championship took place on a sunny but chilly early autumn day on Sunday the 22nd September. Robert Humphries set the early pace scoring a creditable 95 shooting in the first squad out.
He held this lead until mid-afternoon when first Vic Bradley challenged strongly, but ended just behind on a 94, and then Bob English overtook him with a 97 which gave him an ultimately unassailable lead. Ollie Pipe also took advantage of the good mid-afternoon conditions to score the highest colts score of the day.
Diane Boutcher
The later squads out suffered from a low sun making life difficult on stands five through seven, badly affecting some of the scoring with good shots coming in short of their expected levels. Despite this, Diane Boutcher returned an 86 to take the Ladies’ title.
As well as taking the overall championship, Bob’s 97 also won him the Vets title and the Tim Convoy trophy for the highest gun in classes B and C.
As always, Andy Riva and his team at the Clacton Gun Club looked after the total of 38 entrants in this well-supported event. We all look forward to returning again next year.

Typical autumn weather made scoring difficult as the early squads faced some strong winds and drizzle but Mick Atkinson (Vet, B Class) managed a very creditable 93 in the first squad out, closely followed by Russell Thatcher (B class) on 92.
These scores stood until mid-afternoon when, in the worst of the blustery winds, Peter Stanton-Hope (A Class), Robert Humphreys (B), and Ray Simmons (A) all returned scores of 93.
Alex Garcia
Late in the day and with the winds dropping slightly, there were two excellent 99’s from Alex Garcia (A Class) and Vic Bradley (Vet, AA Class). Only a single shot separated these two in the shoot-out with Alex taking the overall championship from Vic who, nonetheless, took the Vets title.

Shooting in the same squad, last year’s champion Lewis Steed produced a fine 95 to take the Junior title. Diane Boutcher retained the Ladies trophy; Oliver Pipe took the Colts title and Ray Rogers won the Tim Convoy Memorial Trophy for B and C class shooters with a score of 95 in the final squad of the day.
