Dorset DTL & S/B Championships 2015. 3rd October, Bisley.
What a fantastic end to the Dorset County Championship series, with both the DTL and S/B events held at Bisley Gun Club on Saturday 3rd October. Considering that the trap disciplines in Dorset struggle to achieve a good number of entrants, and that these particular competitions were held in Surrey, Dorset made a good effort with 10 shooters taking part. All ten Dorset shooters competed in both competitions - 100 birds for the DTL and 50 birds for the S/B.
Jane Rowland again ran the whole show, somehow managing to check everyone in, do some of the refereeing, do all the hot drinks and cooking and enter all the results into the computer! Our thanks go to Jane and to referee Nigel for a fantastic day.
Seniors, Veterans and Ladies trophies were on offer for each discipline. Ian Mulliner took the Seniors trophy for both disciplines (100-294 for DTL and 47/50 for S/B). Tony Read then took the Veterans trophy for both disciplines, although he had to win a shoot-off against Terry Poore for the S/B Vets title. And continuing with the same two-trophy theme, Christine Poore won the Ladies trophy for both discipline.
The photograph below shows the whole Dorset contingent outside the Bisley Gun Club pavilion.
Dorset Sporting Championship 2015. 8th March.
English Sporting was Dorset's first championship for 2015. The event was held on the grand opening of Anthea and Kevin's new venture, Dorset Shooting School.
The day started with heavy fog. Ironic that the weather would play a big part as it was only a couple of miles down the road from the old Southern Counties! A lot of effort has been put into the ground in such a short space of time. There is a reception area, burger bar and a small area to sit down drink tea and munch on bacon butties.
The small tractor ride to the floor of the valley was a first for me. My first impressions was Wylye Valley on steroids and boy was I right. One of the hardest shoots I've had a go at. Most of the guys with me were trap shooters, so they were well out of there depth. Visibility was limited but we got on with it and had a great time. Once the sun came out the valley looks amazing. This is going to be a cracking ground in the summer. Just a tad easier would be nice for us mere mortals. Kevin and Anthea have done a great job and its nice to see a new ground opening. I think Sporting will survive in Dorset and hopefully continue to grow as time goes by. Anthea is sending me a fixtrure list, as soon as I have it I will post on this site.
111 shooters attended which included 60 Dorset shooters. Well done to everyone who attended and all the Trap shooters that turned up to support Anthea and Kevin in there new ground.

Her second Championship this year so far! well done Emily.
A bit of a poor turn out from Dorset with 9 entries and just 25 overall, a bit of a quiet year for the Skeet lads. Roy Partridge from Avon was the overall winner scoring 98. Big thanks to Wesley and Alison for putting on the event and we look forward to seeing them at the All Round on Good Friday.

Mr King took his second Championship of the year with High gun and Dorset Championship at All round. The day started a bit wet and overcast but as soon as we got started the weather cheered up. Wesley and his family put on a great day which was run flawlessly. Sporting was a bit tuff as was noted when Richard missed four on the first layout. A real hard crosser right to left. With 70 entries and nineteen from Dorset a good day was had by all. Nice to see Graham Brown and Emily again. Graham looked like he enjoyed the trap shooting as well. Ball Trap next hope to see you all there again.
