Dorset ESP County Championship at Pilford CPC.

The first registered sporting shoot has just taken place at Pilford CPC with the club hosting the 2017 Dorset CPSA County sporting championship. With unfriendly weather forecasted it was pleasing to see a reasonable amount of entries to the shoot which was split evenly between registered and club shooters. The shoot - being toughened up slightly to reflect its character - was enjoyed by all with club members welcoming the chance to have a go at some testier targets than they are used to with most coping well (although some mentioned that they would be quite glad
to see the usual targets next time!) So to the shoot itself - a mix of targets (including quartering, crossing, teal, rabbits, looping, overhead, going away and a battue) - with at least one straight forward clay on every stand (of which there were 7) and a medium to hard target with them to complete the pair, was set with a view to making the shoot attractive to all. One of the harder targets included a crosser on stand 5 which was probably a little too 'stiff' (we have infact nicknamed that trap Viagra!) and with never enough time to test fire the layout first this did catch out many shooters - a lesson learnt there however!  It should also be noted that a Pilford club shooter actually scored 7 out of the 8 on that stand, beating registered and England shots in the process - a very good effort and well done. The weather was mixed with some sunny spells interspersed with heavy showers - not too many thank goodness! - but this didn't seem to spoil the day for most and many took the time to voice their enjoyment of the shoot which is always appreciated. We would like to thank all the refs - mostly committee members - for giving up their time to administer the shoot for nothing other than a free cup of tea/coffee and a bacon roll and to everyone else who put in the effort required to try and make the shoot a success.

Dorset Trio of Prize Winners at Brook Bank.

Sunday 12th March 2017 saw 5 Dorset shooters take the trip down to Brook Bank Shooting Ground (http://www.brookbankshooting.co.uk/), for the choice of two disciplines DTL and OTR.

Four of the five shooters took their chances at DTL, all posting respectable scores with Ben Jennings coming second in B class with a score of 98/291, Malcom Clarke posting a new personal best of 97/288 which also won him C class. Congratulations Malc.

Finally on the other side of the fence Dorset shooter Terry Poore tried his hand at OTR where he posted an impressive score of 85 ex 100, winning him his class.

Below a photo of the trio Terry Poore (left), Malcolm Clarke (middle), & Ben Jennings (right)

Thanks go out to Wes and Alison at Brook Bank for hosting the shoot. Please remember if you want your photo up here or just want to let us know how you got on please feel free to get in touch via the "contact us" tab to the left.

Bisley Gun Club DTL Major Northover Trophy 5th March 2017

Three Dorset shooters ventured out to Bisley Gun Club for the Major Northover Trophy, in the terrible wet and windy conditions. Unfortunately none of the three came away with the win but one did manage to come second overall and two of the three went away with class wins. Seems that not having a County trap ground doesn't seem to effect performance.

Ben Jennings managed to pull of a new personal best of 99 ex 293 to secure second place overall and a B class win. Malcolm Clarke wasn't far behind with a final score of 277 to secure a C class win, followed by Steve Cloke placing a score of 236 after having a few eye protection issues on his first round. Well done to all three pictured below:

Les Hammond in Charity Shoot at Purbeck Shooting School, 25th April 2015

A group of Dorset shooters raised £320 for Cancer Research UK on 25th April 2015 on a beautiful sunny day. As Les Hammond is particularly un-fond of Sporting and semi-automatic shotguns, the challenge was for Les to shoot......a round of English Sporting using a semi-auto! As well as Les's main event, shooters also tried out Graham Brown's new DTL practise layout. Bearing in mind the recent closure of Southern Counties Shooting Ground, it was also a good way of bringing Dorset shooters together and of supporting Purbeck Shooting School.

Last-Ever Competition at Southern Counties, 4th January 2015

Sunday 4th January at Southern Counties Shooting Ground was bitter-sweet. This was the last day of opening of Dorset's pivotal trap shooting ground and everything finally closed down with one last Registered DTL competition.

DTL - National Inter Counties - 2012

Question - How can a spider get you shooting well ? Answer - Ask Emma Johns

If you are shooting a National Championship I am sure you do not expect to shoot with someone who is singing but having seen a spider hanging from the acoustic microphone Emma decides to sing 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' and then shoots a fantastic 24/72 - 25/73 - 25/73 and (did you stop singing) 22/65 = Total 96/283. Although Emma came second in the Ladies she won the Ladies Team event with friend Karen Rees and beat her other half Darrin Donaldson 96/279 - just brilliant.

DTL - Inter County Final - 2012

Andy Weller topped the Dorset shooters in the Inter County Final on 96/283 which included a perfect second round 25/75 - a fantastic improvement to his score of 88/251 back in April at the Dorset Championship. I know meeting Peter Wilson recently can't be the reason - but well done Andy.

Mark Cassel

Not only did he do a sterling job as our 2012 English Skeet Team Manager getting our Team to Southern Counties for the usual early start but then shot an excellent 98 - 24/25/25/24 - to hold the lead for most of the day for the South West Championship. He was only just pipped in the closing stages by Pete Mylam on 99 who was part of the winning Cornwall Inter County Team.
