DORSET Website : 2016 Supreme Championship Results
The Dorset CPSA Supreme Championship was originally created in 2010 to recognise the efforts of those who not only support the disciplines of other Dorset shooters but perform well over a number of disciplines. Recognition is by means of a published points table with the best overall performance being awarded a Perpetual Trophy and the title of 'Supreme County Champion' for their efforts.
For 2016, however, the format of the Dorset Supreme Championship has been changed to make it more attractive to domestic discipline shooters by excluding the international disciplines of Olympic Trap, Olympic Skeet, Double Trap, Universal Trench and FITASC Sporting.
This new format of using the 7 domestic disciplines of English Sporting, Sportrap, All-Round, English Skeet, Automatic Ball Trap, Down The Line and Single-Barrel gives an even spread of Sporting and Trap-based domestic disciplines which any shooter should feel comfortable participating in.
To reflect the new format, an additional has being created:
"Dorset Super 7"
In previous years, the old Dorset Supreme Championship has been based on 12 disciplines including international disciplines. Upon reflection, however, it is felt that the international disciplines are too specialist and that the new overall Championship would be improved if it were based on the domestic disciplines only. This also provides a more even balance of Sporting and Trap targets across the Championship. Also, rather than recognising the overall winner only, the lower placings should be rewarded.
These changes are being implemented for 2016. If successful, the new format will be carried forward into the future.
See 2016 Dorset County Championship page for details of the individual shoots.
The format of the Dorset Super 7 Championship is as follows:
- 7 domestic disciplines will be taken into consideration (taken from the Dorset County Championship shoots). Note that this new mixture of disciplines provides an even balance of sporting and trap targets, thus giving both types of shooter a fair chance
- All-Round (this is the first event - Good Friday, 25th March 2016 at Brook Bank Shooting Ground)
- English Sporting
- Sportrap
- English Skeet
- Down The Line
- Single-Barrel
- Automatic Ball Trap
- Each shooter's best 6 individual scores will count towards calculation of the overall placings. For each contributing discipline:
- Same Points system as previous years:
- 1st = 10 Points, 2nd = 8 Points, 3rd = 7 Points, 4th = 6 Points, etc., down to 9th = 1 Point.
- Ties policy:
- Any ties for the overall standings will be decided by the number of 1st places, then 2nd down to 9th places.
- If a tie still exists then it goes to count back from each shooters last round.
- There will be improved prizes for the Dorset Super 7, with cash being awarded down to 7th place in the overall Championship. The total prize fund amounts to over £1000!
- 1st = £300
- 2nd = £200
- 3rd = £150
- 4th = £125
- 5th = £100
- 6th = £75
- 7th = £50
- And...........500 cartridges to the top Junior!
- All prizes are to be presented at a dedicated presentation evening of the day of the S/B final round, Saturday 12th November. Winners must attend the presentation evening in order to be awarded their prizes.
Note that the Dorset County Championship season starts on Good Friday, 25th March 2016 with the All-Round at Brook Bank Shooting Ground near Cheddar in Somerset. This is one of the contributing shoots to the Dorset Super 7 Championship and conveniently provides a balanced mixture of targets to get all shooters off to a good start!
The Dorset CPSA Committee hopes that this new format as well as the increased and distributed prize fund will encourage the clay pigeon shooting community in our county to participate in the County Championships and to have a go at some disciplines which are new to them. Committed sporting shooter Tom Green has already been enticed to try his hand at DTL and ABT very recently! He says that he enjoyed the experience very much!
OK, so let's all have a good 2016 with our shooting and have a crack at this Dorset Super 7 Championship!
