DTL Hampshire Championship
The first of the Hants Championships for the 2019 season got off to a flier at Fareham CTC. Seven squads and all mainly Hampshire residents took to Farehams A and B layouts. It was a tad windy which made for some interesting second barrels chasing targets up and down their flight path. I didn't recall seeing a 25/75 on the score board all day and that's a first. The Hampshire DTL Championship attracted some well known names of which several were past Champions, Dave Toomer, Carl Miles, Steve Tarrent to name a few all had their work cut out. With the club holding a 200 DTL Grand Prix at the end of the month several were using this championship as a chance to warm up for the big one. Even with the wind bouncing the targets up and down Dave Toomer yet again proved his skills hitting 100 straight. I drew peg one on squad one and Dave was on peg four, hence I witnessed him on several occasions miss with the first barrel on a target dropping like a stone or rising like a rocket off to the moon, but then he would nail it a second or two later with the second barrel. Great shooting by the man, and tha'ts why he’s the 2019 Hampshire Champion and well deserved. Jane King won the Hampshire Ladies Category, a shoot off was required for the Vets Category between Andy Gordge and Ron King of which Mr King won by ONE point aaaah he did me again. A new junior is on the DTL horizon by the name of Riley Vasey who is the 2019 Hampshire Junior Champion, and yes he’s another grandson of sponsor (big wallet) Granddad Derek Turner. I believe it was his first Hampshire competition so well done him.....and coach, sponsor, chauffeur, Granddad Derek.
